Importing a .obj file with associated .mtl and .jpg

Hi all,

I am trying to import a .obj file as well as its associated .mtl file. I also have .jpg files that the .mtl file references. I easily pull the .obj file into Fusion360 but cannot find a way to link the file with its .mtl and .jpg files. Any help on how to bring these associated files in would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Brian

@TheCADWhispererthank you very much for your support and for the information. I hope its just a bug and will work again with the next update🙄

Hi,

are you sure that Fusion is still able to import 3MF files with color textures embedded?

I,ve tried but get only the shape, no color texture…

I've tried the 3Dmodel dataset and can achieved a rendering in Fusion

but it is a little tricky.

First, when you load the OBJ (if mtl and jpg are at the right place) you get something fine...

But the apeearance is not really generated and when you render the ilage you lose the texture.
so you have to apply a regular shader with the color texture loaded...
and the tricky part is here...
Fisrt you have to flip vertically the texture... by default it is upside down...
second you have to give a scale of 10x10mm

then you can render the picture I have in screenshot

the pity, is that in Fusion Teams the texture is flipped again (so the original one is prefered, and the error comes in Fusion)

I was able to get it to work once using this thread, and now it's as if Fusion 360 noticed i got it to work and after trying to replicate it, it no longer allows me to do it... Going to keep trying to solve this

I was actually able to get it to apply my mtl and jpg files in the Render suite but not the Design suite, which is where i actually need this to render...

I finally got it to work! First, you have to make sure the file is editable (the file name at the top should not be the lock, but the orange cube). That was my first issue.

2nd, i actually Disabled "Apply a Different Appearance" in Material, in the Preferences menu. That apparently immediately applies the alternate "Steel" texture and overrides the .mtl and .jpg file.

3rd, toggle mesh face groups and make sure it's smooth shaded in the Bodies tree in the right click menu.

Hope this helps!

It actually started working for me as well.. Not sure what changed as I was trying these things previously. I'm happy to know it can work again!
