imported files show up in mm not inches, and scale when I change units

I have all my settings for new drawings, in all areas, set to inches.  I am currently trying to import a .3dm file, which does have unit information, and the model is 1" tall.  When I open it in Fusion, it has changed to 10mm tall.

If I change the units in the drawing to inches, the model is *scaled* and is now .3937" tall.

It seems that Fusion has chosen to import my model as if it were in cm, scaled that to mm, and then scales again when I try to tell it the unit information *that existed in the originally imported file*.

How can I fix this?  Currently I can scale the model, but I have to remember to check the units every time, and it's annoying.  The other posts I have seen about this just talk about changing the units, but I haven't seen anyone mention scaling, so maybe it doesn't happen to other people?  I can't tell.

Thanks for any hints.

If you use the Export command, the conversion is done by the Autodesk Servers and they only work in Centimeters.  The video will show you a better way that will maintain your units.

@jhackney1972  This is about .3DM (Rhino) files.

@serviceRTDVA  Just did a test and if I have a 3dm file set to inches it imports as inches.

Here you can see I've saved a 1 inch cube and it opens in inches and is 1 inch. Try with the temp.3dm file attached.

Hi Mark, I tried your cube and it imported as a 1" cube.  Makes me suspect an issue with the software I am using to create my .3dm files!  It's something called Moment of Inspiration 3D, and it uses Rhino v5 format.  I will ask on the forums there.

Thank you, that moves me forward with this problem.

@jhackney1972 I appreciate your reply, but it doesn't address my problem.

Best,

Rachel
