Import a MAX file into a Fusion 360 project

I am using the personal version of Fusion 360 and had a MAX file shared with me that I would like to be able to edit in a Fusion 360 project. I was able to import the file into the Data Panel, but I can't get it to insert into the Fusion Project. I've right clicked the file in the Data Panel but there is no option to insert. I have used the Insert button on the toolbar, but the MAX file does not show as an option to insert.

Am I missing something or can I not insert a MAX file into a project? If it can't be inserted, is there a tool that can convert the MAX file to something that can be inserted?

Just a note: I only need the geometry of the object imported. I do not need textures, lights, etc. for this particular project.

Thank you in advance for any help provided!

A file from 3DS Max is likely a mesh file which is non-native CAD geometry. If you're lucky, it's a quad mesh file.

Either way, you cannot directly import a MAX file into Fusion. You'll have to export it as a .obj or .fbx file from MAX and then insert that mesh into Fusion.

Thank you for the response! I'll try to get it converted from the source.

Don't!

I looked at the file in 3DS Max. Like so many other objects that are modeled in 3DS Max, Blender, Maya, etc., this also was purely a model for visuals.

It will not be useful in Fusion.
