Image to Surface Add In keeps crashing when wanting to add a extrude surface to back of it

I had good success when I shrank my photo image down to a smaller size to prevent freezing fusion 360, but now when I want to extrude a backing board onto photo to finish making a lithophane it keeps crashing again - do i need to reduce pixels down from 5 to prevent this occurring? also how do you choose size of photo on this program as I made my image 68mm high and it changed it to 220mm high and no selection tool to adjust this height?

You need to attach more information.  Are you talking about using a Decal?  You mentioned an Add-In, is this a third party application you have added into Fusion 360?  If you can attach the model that you have do along with the image maybe one of the forum users can help you out.  You will probably need to zip the image up to attach it.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

There is an AddIn program called 'Image to Surface' and it is really quick and hassle free to a point - it doesn't allow resizing of object in its program (doesn't matter that you personally resized it and saved it as a JPEG file to 68mm high to 56mm wide - it will change size to whatever it likes and you can't alter it in that program - I assume you scale finish item in Fusion 360, but I wouldn't know as I've had 6 more crashes since my first report post). Is there another addin to try??? or is there a Fusion 360 process within its system to make lithophane objects from external photos??? it's really bad that when I try an extrude and/or add sketch and/or zoom and/or orbit and/or view cube in the Fusion 360 program takes forever to think through these steps with the addin photo from Image to Surface - just seems to have too much information to process even when I've increased pixel loss to 12 now from default 5 - cannot increase pixel loss any higher as quality really dies in photo to a blurry blobbish photo

@Anonymous, you should have add @hanskellner into your message to auto notify the author of the  add-in. Note that there is also a dedicated discussion in the API forum

@Anonymous, our April update included updates to our framework and API, and add-ins might need to be updated to remain fully compatible. The Git repo for this add-in shows the last update around 2 years ago, and a good bit has changed under the hood since then, so it's likely this is the case here.

Hi @Anonymous -

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing crashing.  From your description, it doesn't sound like the Image2Surface add-in is the problem but the Extrude operation performed in Fusion 360.

To clarify, you have created a mesh surface using the Image2Surface add-in and imported into Fusion 360.  Then you are attempting to extrude a "backing board", which I assumed is a solid box, onto the surface.  At that point Fusion 360 crashes?

Have you converted the mesh surface to a T-Spline or BREP before performing the extrude?

To gather more information, it would be helpful to see a recorded screencast of that operation that is causing the crash.  Would you be able to record and post one here?

Thanks,

Hans

Hi @lance.carocci -

Please see my response above.  From the description given, the crash appears to be occurring within Fusion 360 during an extrude operation and not related to the Image2Surface addin.

Thanks,

Hans
