How to snap to multiple components in a new sketch

I am trying to create a sketch which needs to be able to snap to multiple existing components.

So far I can only snap the comment the sketch was started on, even though "Snap" is selected in the Sketch Palate dialogue. 

I've also tried sketching on a construction plane with zero offset from the components in question (they are all coplanar), to no avail.

Any help very welcome.

Hi,

To reference a sketch to an existing element, you must project the desired edges, lines and points into the active sketch via Create > PROJECT > project (shortcut P).
