How to move an object to the XY plane?

I know how to move an object.  But I don't know how to tell when the object is in contact with the XY plane.  And the cursor is snapping to something, although "snap to grid" is not checked.   I am hoping that there is some way to say "move it to the XY plane" and it happens without my having to figure out the distance.

Thanks,  Bob

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Thanks you CADWhisperer.  (Why do I keep forgetting to do that?)

Thanks you very much Guenther.  I even knew about Align, but in all of the videos I've seen it was never used to align an object with a plane.

Sorry, I thought you told/showed me everything I needed to know, but now I have discovered that the thing I need to select a plane (see attached screen shot) has disappeared and I have not been able to figure out how to get it back.  I did not intentionally turn it off.  BTW sometimes when I have to select a place I use the Origins section of the browser but that does not seem to be working for this.  f3d also attached.

Thanks, Bob

This is a really old post... lol but incase someone comes here and also can't see the little square boxes that let you select the plane to Modify -> Align to, make sure you have the eye icon selected on your origin. Once you turn this on, you can do the solution provided in the post with the GIF.
