Hi,

There is no option to change the behavior on close. We do have an option to control the startup behavior, as documented here - https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/blog/april-2026-product-update-whats-new/#usability.

Can you tell me more about your preference for the data panel vs. your recent documents? Is it just more familiar, or are you regularly navigating across different projects?

Thank you for your help, from the link you sent me: "When the last open design is closed, Fusion will return to Home instead of automatically creating a new empty design." , can we revert to always have an empty design so we don't have to go to the home screen? not sure if I'm in the minority but trying to use home is less efficient, hope we can have this option again, for us is way easier when we have to look for parts for other projects or references, more visibility for us to find what we are looking for, and for us working in 3 or 4 projects at a time using home is going to be a drag, thank you, also one more point, before when we had an automatic empty design we always stayed on the folder we are working on, and because we use a lot of Derive parts and sub assemblies we find "home" a drag to navigate, thank you for your attention

"regularly navigating across different projects" ? yes that is why we having the empty design on works great for us, the empty design  is not a problem, what we want at the end is to stay on the folder we are working the way it behave before

I just experienced this "last tab(design) close" and going to Home after updating Fusion 360.

I do not like it one bit. I couldn't even click on the Data Panel Icon to open up my files.

This is not good for my workflow at all.

As a hobbyist this is why I don't buy the subscription any more. I used to but with annoying changes like this I'll deal with the 10 document limit.

Fusion Quote - You can update this behavior at any time by going to My Profile > Preferences > General and setting your Start-up experience to Home or your preferred default design type.

I am unable to follow the links - I agree the Home Sucks - This is from a paying client!

Actually you cannot update this behavior of closing the last design tab. What MikeSmell_ADSK is talking about is the Fusion 360 Start-Up behavior which is in Preferences and General.

Preferences Start-Up Experience.png

The Highlighted Drop Down Box you can select Home or Default Design Type.

There is nothing right now that can change the behavior of closing the last design tab.

I also found a couple rows down I could change the Default design type back to Hybrid Design like it was before they started messing with things they didn't need too.

They say it's all for the New User Experience but I was a new user many years ago when I started using Fusion 360 and never needed any of these things they are putting in now but I ask myself why cater and change things for the new user when you have paying customers that liked the way it was and now this just disrupts their workflow.

Sure you can add stuff for new users and have it enabled by default when they first download Fusion 360 but leave the setting alone when someone is upgrading their version of Fusion 360 that don't want new user stuff. They can read about it in the update notes and decide for themselves.

Thanks,

Jeffery

Hi Mike, are we going to have the option of only evoking "home" when we really wanted as it worked before the "home" issue in the next update? as is now the update I thought i worked but i was wrong and i will say we are looking to see "home" only as an option when/if need it

Thank you

Thank you I believe the community still looking for the solution to this issue and i believe there has been communication already in another post, but if it helps i still would like to see this fixed, there was an attempt in the last update but nothing seems to be happening after, I know there is a long thread on the forum and basically the issue wasn't well received by most of us and we still looking for the fix/solution

I've taken the liberty to accept @MikeSmell_ADSK's last post as a solution 😉
