How to exit orbit without deselecting

Suppose I have a body in the shape of a cube. If I want to select the four vertical edges I would typically select the edges that I can see then orbit around and select any additional edges with CTRL left mouse button.

However for some reason when I hit Esc to exit the orbit mode it is also deselecting the edges that I previously selected.

I'm not sure if this is a mode I've accidentally got into or the result of an update.

I've noticed that if I select 1 edge, start the chamfer tool, then orbit I can escape the orbit to add other edges to the selection without it deselecting the 1st edge (eg this works ok).

Its only if you try and select the edges without a tool open.

Oh well at least I have a work around.

how are you invoking rotation in Fusion?  Using the mouse (shift MMB + drag)?  Using the Orbit command in the navigation toolbar at the bottom?  By dragging on the view cube?  The answer will be different for different methods.  mouse orbit is terminated by just releasing MMB.  It might be helpful to record a video of your interaction.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using the orbit button at the bottom.

Thanks, that helps.  The orbit command is itself a command that suspends the Chamfer command, and when canceled, resumes Chamfer.  As long as you only hit ESC once, it should not touch the selected edges.  When I tried it, I did not see the behavior you describe, but perhaps I am doing something slightly differently.  See the video below:

Thanks, opening chamfer then selecting edges works. Selecting the edges then opening the chamfer tool is the issue.

So this works..

Select chamfer tool

Select 3 edges

Select Orbit

ESC

Select 4th edge

Returns to Chamfer tool,

Click OK

This sequence is what I'm having an issue with..

Click Select tool

Select 3 edges

Orbit

ESC

Select 4th edge

Select Chamfer tool

When I hit ESC to add the 4th edge the previously selected edges are deselected.

I'm having problems doing a screed recording. I've attached one but its not showing the cursor.

Hi,

You can select edges without rotating the object. For this purpose there is the option through in the selection menu.
It works for both methods.

With your method, however, the selection menu must be edited in advance.

But:
I can only recommend that you always select the tool first and  then the objects.

OK, so this has nothing to do with Chamfer at all.  You are just observing that selecting anything, with no command active, using the orbit tool from the navigation bar, and then canceling that orbit will deselect everything.  Yes, that behavior seems incorrect.  ESC with no command active is intended to deselect everything.  However, with a component active, it should only terminate the command.  In this case it also seems to have the unintended side effect of clearing the selection.   I created bug FUS-141622 for this.

Also, there is a workaround:  use the marking menu (right click) to cancel orbit.  Or, use the view cube or shift-MMB to rotate.  I almost never use that Orbit command.
