How to allign and assemble this axle?

Dear community,

I'm probably not the only one who thinks the assembly system in Fusion 360 is way more complicated than it needs to be, unlike for example how Solidworks does it.

I'm stuck with an axle that I want to align and join with a plate. The axle needs to lie on top of the plate, but whenever I align or join the parts, the axle goes perpendicular to the plate, right through it. 'flipping' doesn't work, picking any other surface hasn't worked for me neither.

I don't want to change the model, as it is simple as it is (litterally just a cylinder). What's the easiest way to do this? It mustn't be that hard to put a cylinder on a flat plane, right?

This is a very simple task if you use the Joint Origin command to create a joint location is is pointed in the correct direction.  You were using the correct process but you were not paying attention to the orientation of the joint origin.  The Joint Origin command as the ability to reorient the connection point.

By the way, next time you ask a question about a specific model, be sure to attach the model so you can get your answer to your specific circumstances.  My model is attached.

Ah, that seems to have worked, thank you! There's only one question I have left. When using a part that is linked in an assembly (after dragging and dropping it into the assembly, thus showing a pencil symbol in stead of a dot) the joint origin command isn't available. For now it works by putting those parts all in separate components, but that's a bit unorganised and unnecessary. Is there another way to do this better?

For your question, I believe you need to do a tutorial on files and file structure because you seem to not understand these principals.  A linked component, one with the chain symbol in front of it is truly EXTERNAL to the assembly and only be edited in place, with the pencil icon, or opened directly, edited and saved.  It will update in the assembly when you return.  You can also Break the Link and make the component an actual part of the assembly.  All of this is in the Screencast.
