How do I cut/trim splines?

Hello, my name is Connor. I'm familiar with 2D CAD software but am now experimenting with Fusion 360 and am wondering about splines.

I used a helix spline from a third party add-in to create the spline pictured below.

I'm now looking to cut the spline 3 inches down the tube (one quarter of the helix's length, 90 degrees of rotation), but can't find any means of trimming a spline.

What options do I have for trimming off the excess spline?

Thank you in advance,

~Connor Ross MacDonald.

If you want to cut a spline at a given position, just click on the spline, right mouse menue click on "insert spline point".

Then select Break under Sketch and move the mouse over the last spline segment. 2 red crosses should appear and you click to confirm the break. Now you can select the cutted part of the spline and delete.

Thank you very much, I'll get right on it.

This does not work. Anybody know if there is a "right" way to do this? The only way I found is to intersect the line with something else (like a line) and then break works. Break does not even work with a normal point on the line. Isn't this a bug, that you can't break a spline at a spline point anymore?

@hoegge  I ran across this thread for the same issue. I click break, then click on my spline and it just deletes the entire thing. Also, when hovering the mouse over the spline while in Break tool mode, it doesn't highlight spline points, just the entire spline. Is this a bug?

@jeff_strater Are you aware of this bug already?

I'm not sure there is a bug here.  As far as I know, Break has never worked on a spline fit point as described here.  I could be wrong, of course, but I think that Break works just like Trim, which requires some intersecting geometry.  If you have a line that intersects even a 3D spline, it can be trimmed, or broken at that point of intersection.

Ok thanks for quick response - and thanks for the video @jeff_strater . Then you also confirm, that the way is to do also, as I described. Would be a nice thing to avoid to draw a dummy line to break it at a spline point, though.

yes, you are correct, @hoegge - trim only works with other geometry (lines, arcs, curves, etc), not with points (either fit points or just free-standing points) in either 2D or 3D.

@jeff_straterAlright, I guess I'll just draw temporary lines to use for cutting 😅

Are there plans to have a simple "click to cut here" tool for splines? Seems like a simple addition, no?
