HDR file size for render environment

I subscribed to Convertio to convert a background JPG to an HDR file.  It's 2.6 MB.  It shows up as the custom library but will not show up as a background in the image to render.  File too big?  Is there a limit?  Thoughts?  Thanks!  Leif

Hi @lm275,

In the Scene Settings, have you selected the Custom Environment? If yes, have you also selected for your background to use an environment instead of a solid color?

Hi @lm275,

Can you attach the HDR file. It is very possible the file isn't valid. Creating a custom HDR with a JPG converter tool doesn't seem like it would produce great results. I know that HDR has to have lighting environments, etc. Have you tested the environment in other programs that can open HDR's to see what it would look like?

Thanks,

I thought I replied - more pilot error...

I have never used or even heard of HDR files sO I thought a converter was the only way to go.  Is there a Mac program I could use to save as?  I can do it in a PC program via Parallels if need be.  Here's the file I've been trying to use.  Thanks!

Not pilot error - the "HDR" filr I created via Convertio will not upload here so clearly it is the problem.  That being said, any suggestions for a program to create an HDR from a JPG?  Thanks!

typical.... I just paid $90 for HDR Darkroom 3, exported the small version of my JPG as an HDR.  What an improvement - now instead of an all white background I get my image in all blue!  Can Fusion really import HDR images?

Hi @lm275,

Can you try a free HDR image from HDRI Haven and see if that works? I'm looking up the requirements for using HDR environments in Fusion. It's possible the conversion is creating an environment that is not valid.

Thanks,

a 5 MB file came in easily - can it be resized in Fusion?

Sometimes the issue can be the file proportion or aspect ratio. HDRs usually are in a 2:1 aspect ratio. If you try to resize the file to 1200 x 600 px for example, does it work?

I have found the file must be 2:1   IE 5000 x 2500.   I can create a background from a jpeg just by opening it in paint and then when I save it,  save it as picture.hdr -(all in the filename)  (in jpeg format)
