Graphic card requirements

Hello,

In the minimum requirements to graphic cards, I read following:

  • Dedicated GPU with 1 GB or more of VRAM
  • Integrated graphics with 6 GB or more of RAM

I understand it indicates BOTH dedicated and integrated graphic cards. (correct?)

Can you confirm I need not both cards, but one of them? In other words, the below mentioned configuration is Ok?

I am now on a trial of Fusion 360 (latest version). The problem is that I have loaded a big model from my friend (200 MB step file) and it runs very slow. Almost not possible to do anything.

My PC: Dell Precision 5820 Tower/i7-9800X (165W, DDR4-2666 Non-ECC)/ 32GB (2x16GB) 2666MHz DDR4 UDIMM Non-ECC/ M.2 512GB PCIe NVMe Class 40 Solid State Drive/Mouse+Kbd/950W/Win 10Pro/W3Yr NB

My graphics: NVIDIA Quadro P2000, 5GB, 4 DP, FH

What would you recommend to upgrade in this configuration to significantly improve performance (if this is possible at all)?

Thanks.

You are correct, you only need one of the graphic card options in your system.  The system you describe sounds adequate for Fusion 360 to operate.  Once thing I would check.  A lot of desktop computers are furnished with an integrated graphics adapter by default but then a lot of people add a dedicated graphics card.  This my be your case.  On these systems, a lot of times you have to designate which graphic adapter should be used for each application, Fusion 360 is no different.  Click on the following locations and check to be sure Fusion 360 is using your Nvidia card for its graphics work.  If it is not, this can hurt Fusion 360 performance.

On the matter of the STEP file, I really cannot comment on its performance since I do not know what is in it.  Fusion 360 will have performance issues if poor practices are used such as extensive sketches, timeline issues, etc.  If you want to post the STEP file and let the forum users take a look, please do.

A STEP file of 200Mb in size likely has an enormous amount of geometry in it.

As such it might help to hide the stuff that's not needed or set it to be un-selectable.

Also, turn off all the graphics gimmicks used in the viewport such as Ambient Occlusion.

Thanks to all for the answers. I came to conclusion that my PC config and settings are Ok. But the step file was created not in Fusion 360, but in Inventor.
I have downloaded a trial version of Inventor and opened the file with it. It works much better.

So I think there are some differences between the step file formats or how the software is using the formats.
Anyway, your replies were helpful for me to search in the right direction.
