Fusion's entire window stealing focus on macOS

Hi all,

I'm reporting a newer, more recent issue of the entire Fusion 360 stealing focus (popping into foreground) on macOS. I know there is another long-standing issue (past few years) where parts of Fusion (the Browser primarily) will steal focus, but this is a separate issue that behaves differently and causes the entire Fusion 360 window to pop up.

I've begun experiencing this in the last version or two, specifically certain actions such as minimizing a Chrome tab, unminimizing a Chrome tab, turning MacBook brightness to 0, or going from 0 to brighter all bring the entire Fusion 360 window to the foreground. I know it happens when going to brightness 0 because for the brief period it's dimming to black I see Fusion pop up. I know it happens when I increase from 0 as well because if I cmd+tab to another process while it's at brightness 0, then increase brightness, again I see it pop back into foreground.

The other issue that has been around for years and I see it mostly when exporting STLs to Cura. Within Cura, sometimes the Fusion Browser will appear in the foreground. I can fix this by Cmd+tabbing to Fusion, then back to Cura. I believe it intermittently happens when I cmd+tab into Cura and it remains but is intermittent.

Another interesting issue is if I fully minimize Fusion 360, but cmd+tab into Fusion 360, the Browser appears (screenshot included). I'd expect nothing to appear other than the app to have focus of the mac Menu Bar and nothing else.

Please let me know if I can provide any additional info!

Thanks,

Samy

Hello @samykamkar ,

This is a known issue which is added to backlog and our team is working on this.

Not sure when this will be resolved but this is already in consideration.

Thanks!

I have the same problems on macOS. Pretty infuriating, both when Fusion's Browser menu pops up over other windows, and when the entire Fusion window steals focus on startup / whenever the wifi disconnects or reconnects.

Seems the issue of coming into the foreground happens in any of these conditions:

- any time the macOS Dock adds/removes an item, for example opening a new application, minimizing an application, unminimizing, or if Apple's Handoff/Continuity feature shows another icon like when I open Safari on my iPhone and my macOS Dock then shows the Safari icon in the dock

- screen brightness goes to 0 (on a MBP laptop)

- screen brightness changes from 0 to bright

This kind of problem remains for me running F360 ver. 2.0.11680, Active Plan: Fusion 360, Personal, Microsoft Windows 10 x86_64 (17763.0)

I see elements of the Fusion 360 Browser tree in the foreground covering other windows when they are brought in front of the Fusion 360 window.  If I minimize the F360 window then these tree elements disappear.

I'm actually running the F360 Windows version on Linux Mint 20.2 with Wine 6.2 (staging).  The software seems to be running well (although somewhat slowly due to my inadequate GPU on my old Lenovo Thinkpad T520).

I think I saw a workaround to fix this but can't seem to find it.  Does anyone have suggestions on how I can fix this?

Thank you,

...Patrick

This "known issue" has been backlogged since at least 2016.

Either fix it or be honest and say "we don't care about our users and just like having an incredibly annoying product"
