Fusion Online export, link dead immediately

I'm using the online version of Fusion 360 as an education free user(for many reasons).

When I try to export objects for 3d printing in STL format.  Today, the provided link doesn't work anymore.

I'm getting this 503 error.

503 ERROR The request could not be satisfied.

Not sure why this is happening. Any insights are appreciated.  Thank you!

p.s. I'm not using the desktop version, because it doesn't like my Hackintosh(Ryzen).  Other more talented folks figured out a workaround fix, but any new version of fusion breaks it again.

Hi @zeblis ,

It is possible that you are re-using a link that was created a while ago ?

To provide some security around these exports, the links will expire after 7 days.

Regards,

Matt.

Thanks for the reply Matt,

Every link generated has done this since yesterday.  They are at most a few minutes old.  I click on it the moment my email comes in.

To that note, I did noticed that links were generated really much faster than before.

I guess it's working again.

I'm not sure what happened, but after replying, I tried with a larger model(different project) to check the render speed.  Sure enough it worked.

I tried the original project again, and got the same 503 error.  I'm wondering if my project is corrupted somehow?

Exporting bodies to a new project, and then exporting the new project into a STL got me a working link.

I'm not really sure what I might have done to cause this issue, but at least I have a work around now.

Thanks again.

Hi @zeblis ,

For the model that has consistent issues, if you could share a public link with me through direct message I can take a deeper look at what is happening.

Regards,

Matt.

The public link to the original project is here: https://a360.co/3rJEXol

I hope that works, because I had to type the link in manually, the web interface clipboard doesn't transfer over to my Mac. It copies and pastes into the Fusion360 web instance, but doesn't paste into this text box(probably will require another discussion thread).

I was just about to post the link, but funny thing happened.  I decided to test again and confirm it's the right project(I've made a few variations, they behave the same).  It is now generating a link that seems to work, but it tells me that it is a DMS file.

The resulting file is a text file without a suffix. I decided to download the file anyway.  When loaded into my slicer software, it tells me that it is an invalid file.  I then added the .stl suffix to the file name, and sure enough, it loads into the slicer and slices right up.  I haven't tried printing it, but it appears normally now.

I hope this provides some answers for you(and a permanent fix).  Unfortunately, I just have more questions now.  Thanks again Matt.

Hi @zeblis ,

Thank you for the additional information, after exploring further today it looks as though you may have run into an issue we had where some models could not be downloaded successfully through the Content Delivery Network (CDN) we are using. A server side change was made earlier today to resolve that, which would explain the different behavior you are now seeing.

However, it seems you are now running into a different issue where the file extension is being lost on download, do you see the same problem with other models or with this model in another web browser ?

Regards,

Matt.

Testing the export feature on a different project, I was able to generate a link for an .STL file.

I have tried exporting the project in question on Firefox and Safari.  Both result in the .DMS file.

I've been using the web version on and off over the past year, and this is the first time I've had this issue.

This is the first time I've made 2 derivatives of the same project, and modified each derivative project is different ways.  I'm not sure this can even trigger this issue, but all of the derivative projects has the same issue.

Whatever went wrong, it broke before I made the derivative projects.

Thanks again for checking in Matt.
