Fusion freezing when trying to Insert McMaster-Carr Component

Fusion freezing/unresponsive after pressing "Download" button when inserting a McMaster-Carr Component.

Log file indicates a successful download of the .STEP file followed by only some SLM_heartbeat(s).

@rich Took a very quick look at the logs, can you confirm if you are running multiple Fusion instances?

1. Logout of Fusion
2. Close Fusion
3. In your task manager make sure that Fusion.exe is not running
4. Restart your machine
5. Now Start and login to Fusion

See if the same problem repeats?

Completed all steps.

The same problem persists.

@rich Can you please run the below and generate another set of logs please?

1. Close Fusion
2. Go to Add/remove programs - Select Fusion - Modify

3. This will launch the Fusion service utility

4. First run the Reset Fusion
5. Now launch Fusion
6. Go directly and run the McMaster workflow
7. Now go into Help - support and diagnostics - Service utility
8. Collect the new logs and attach the files please

Done.

Unfortunately, this forum site is prohibiting me from attaching any more files. 😞

I also noticed that the Network Diag. Tester fails the "collaborator" test.

The same Network Diagnostic Test fails on my application also.  It does not seem to affect me inserting McMaster-Carr components into my models.

@rich As @jhackney1972 called out the collaboration should not impact Mcmaster download.

The logs shows the following towards the end:

20240928T201742 I .5164 The McMaster part will be downloaded to ***\AppData\Local\Temp\Neutron\9540K717_Unthreaded Bumper (1).STEP
20240928T201742 I .5164 The McMaster part is being downloaded to ***\AppData\Local\Temp\Neutron\9540K717_Unthreaded Bumper (1).STEP
20240928T201742 I .5164 The McMaster part has been downloaded to ***\AppData\Local\Temp\Neutron\9540K717_Unthreaded Bumper (1).STEP

Can you check to see if this file that you used from McMaster is indeed inside the temp folder? If you do see it then the download works but then inserting it into the design is not working.

Clear this temp folder and then try the Insert workflow again.

This is the exact same behavior when trying to Save As Mesh (STL) and opening STEP files as I reported here (I believe the McMaster inserts as a STEP file):

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-support/save-as-mesh-lock-up-crash/td-p/13038969

I believe these are all related

@rich @We have deployed a new update 2.0.20460. Can you please update to this version and try again? We do believe this issue will be addressed in this version.

Sadly, the update does not fix the problem. 😞

I noticed a month or two ago that McMaster inserts freeze for ~30 seconds now where before they happened almost instantly - not sure what changed and mine always do eventually work, there's just an annoying delay and I often end up clicking the "download" button twice in case I missed it the first time. Not sure this is related to the OP's issue, but thought I'd mention it

Same result.

Another possible data point... whenever I try to Move a model, the "Move To" window gets stuck "Receiving data..."

And Renaming a model never completes with the data panel constantly refreshing. The old name remains, even when viewed on the Web.

@rich Can you quickly run the "Insert component" and see if you are able to insert one without any issues? It seems like McMaster is downloading the file but then is not able to Insert it into Fusion.

Regarding your other data panel workflows like a rename for example, if you do the rename on Fusion team (the web), I assume it changes the name successfully?

Yes, the file is successfully downloaded to the Temp folder (with/without a pre-existing file in the folder), and then the freeze.

I've experienced no issues with the Web interface. Interestingly, a Web "rename" will send an update message to the PC, but that doesn't result in successfully updating the data panel on the PC:

@rich Lets try a clean start and see where it lands us.

Close Fusion

  1. Uninstall Fusion, then:
  2. Go to C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\ DELETE folder Autodesk\
  3. Delete your Fusion launcher shortcut
  4. Download the installer again
  5. Now install

Same result even after a clean re-install.

This version is fundamentally broken. It even struggles to populate the data panel after opening a project. Repeat presses of the Refresh button are ineffective:

The latest update (20476) does NOT fix this bug, nor any of the other bugs I've posted to over the past couple of weeks.  😞
