Fusion 360 Toolbar Icons Disappeared After April 2021 Update

Good afternoon. Since the update, I cannot see the icons in the Application Bar, Tool Bar, or the Timeline. The bars themselves are visible as grey strips and the functions are *there* and can be clicked even though they are not visible. I'm using a PC with Windows 10 Pro, 32GB RAM, and a GeForce 1660 6GB graphics card.

It just so happened that my Hobbyist/Personal licence expired today. I renewed it and the licence shows it is now valid until 2022. I don't *think* it's the cause but I thought I'd mention it in case I'm wrong about that.

So far I've tried a number of things to correct the problem but have met with no success. Things I've tried:

1. Restart Fusion 360.

2. Restart my PC.

3. Log out of Fusion 360 then Log back in. This caused the program to get stuck at the launch screen but I was able to correct that by logging into the Autodesk Desktop App and then launching Fusion 360.

4. Uninstall/reinstall Fusion 360.

5. Update my Nvidia GeForce driver to the latest version.

6. In Fusion 360, changed my video driver from DirectX 11 to DirectX 9 and even tried the OpenGL driver.

7. Uninstall/reinstall Fusion 360 using Fusion 360 Cleaner uninstall tool.

I've attached a Screencast capture of my dilemma to illustrate the problem. I'm not sure what else to try and would be grateful for suggestions.

Thanks,

Dan

Did you set the environment variable as suggested? That seems to have worked for most others.

From Google Translate:

Ortam değişkenini önerildiği gibi ayarladınız mı? Bu diğerleri için işe yaramış gibi görünüyor.

I have tried the solution, but I can't find any of the things you mentions.

Are you talking WIN 10?

New information:

As I mentioned when the environment variable solution was posted, it fixed my Fusion 360 and Meshmixer BUT broke my Chitubox slicer (which didn't render correctly on this PC anyway). Today, I needed to start up Chitubox to get some settings from it so I  deleted the environment variable figuring I'd put it back after I was done.

Well, that worked; better than expected. Not only did Chitubox start up, but suddenly it was rendering normally!

Out of curiosity, I fired up Fusion 360 and it was perfectly normal; all the UI elements were displayed properly in English. So I tried Meshmixer and it still works too.

Wondering if this was just Windows being weird and caching the environment variable (which, I know, it *SHOULDN'T* do but on the other hand, it *IS* Windows so…) I rebooted the PC after double-checking that the variable was deleted. After rebooting I confirmed that the variable was still gone and that all three programs continue to work correctly without the environment variable in place.

I'm at a loss as to why this would work this way but it does. Anyway, since you're working on a permanent fix, I thought you might want to be aware of this behaviour.

Thanks again, not only for the Fusion 360 fix but also fixing Meshmixer AND NOW for fixing my Chitubox slicer too!

If you manage to prompt any Meshmixer update that would be incredible!

Hi,

There is an update available that is intended to address this issue. Can you please try the following steps to confirm?

First update Fusion 360

1. Restart Fusion 360
2. Wait for the update to start, you'll see a small 1 appear on the job status icon (the clock)
3. Click on the clock icon to watch the progress
4. Click Restart when the update is ready

5. Confirm you are using build 2.0.10032 (found on the Help > About box)

Next remove the user variable from your system if you added it.

1. Shut down Fusion

2. Edit the user variable and remove it

3. Start Fusion

How does it look?

@dan62Q5E - puzzling, but good to hear! Of all cases, yours was the most confusing since your GPU and drivers are so new - if you experience any other graphics issues, you might PM me your DXdiag report to dig further.

Just had the update on my BRAND NEW Microsoft Windows Tablet pro 7.

It worked right up until the update today.

All drivers updated and I tried the Environment and System variables trick.

Still had black bars top and bottom (no timeline no icons).

Did a clean install and poof black screen.

What next?
