Fusion 360 Simulation Failing

Hi there,

Every 2 weeks or so I go to run a Static Stress simulation on Fusion and even the simplest of sims will Fail.

Usually I just uninstall and install the software but this becomes a little tedious.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Here is the details of a sim when crashed:

Untitled v0: Simulation Model 1 - Study 1 - Static Stress _____ 2018-11-05 11:21:57 _____ _____ 2018-11-05 11:21:57 _____

Lowest collapse ratio : 0.39 on element 299 Worst Jacobian ratio : 1 on element 1 Base mesh: 3587 nodes, 2242 elements Solver mesh: 3587 nodes, 2242 elements Job has finished with errors. Receiving results.

Hi @Anonymous,

thanks for posting! I have the following questions:

  • Does this happen for a solve in the Cloud or a local one?
  • Are these the full contents of the report you receive? Is there any other error log above the lines "Error: Solver Error | Error: An error occurred while solving the model"?
  • Which OS are you using? If it's windows, do you have any non-English characters or a space in your username?

If you are using Windows OS, please start off by making sure that you run Fusion 360 with Administrator rights:

  1. Right-click on Fusion 360 Desktop Icon
  2. Select Properties
  3. Select Compatibility Tab
  4. Enable Run this program as administrator option.

Let me know if that helped. Thanks!

Hi Pawel,

Thanks for getting back to me.

The issue occurs during a local solve not cloud solve.

I've now uninstalled and re-installed.  I believe the problem is something to do with updating the software.  I'm usually unable to update the software due to some networking error and I think this stops the simulation being able to run.  So each time I download the latest version it runs fine again.  I'm not sure what the issue with the network is but I always have to download the software from a single thread and sometimes even then the network doesn't allow for it to be downloaded.

Hi @Anonymous,

thanks for the update! If I understand correctly, a clean uninstall allowed you to resolve the issue?

This might have been a combination of the User Account Control / network and security software settings on your machine. Here are some general tips on Troubleshooting Network Connectivity Issues for Autodesk Fusion 360.

You can start off with making sure that your security software and your firewall are properly configured:

If you run into this behavior once again, do not hesitate to get back to me and send your diagnostic log files for Fusion 360. Thanks!
