Fusion 360 only runs with run as administrator

Anonymous

Hello,

When we try to run Fusion 360 that we installed via Fusion 360 Admin Installer in our laboratory, it will not run under normal users. If we right click on the icon and click run as administrator it will run. We have tried various remedies that we have found looking through the forums, but nothing has worked so far.

It also seems to only be happening with our new computers we received, all the old machines that had Fusion 360 previously installed on still work just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous,

On these new computers, can you ensure that Fusion was installed in the correct directories using the Admin Installer? The big difference is, the streaming install stores the installation files into the AppData folders which requires admin level permissions. The admin install stores these in program files which provides the Fusion installation to all users on the machine.

Is it possible that both installations are installed on the computer? Are you able to navigate/launch the executable for Fusion 360 from the Program Files?

Hi

I'm having a similar issue. (on pc)

For some time now, probably due to some update on my computer I can't go online in fusion 360.

I just realized that I can switch user and log in as an administrator on windows and it all works fine. It goes online and I have access to all my files.

I tried to start it from my user account and launch it as administrator but that doesn't work either.

Hello all,

I found the problem and the solution.

The location of saved files in is the programdata folder which necessitates an admin elevation to write in.

This folder should've been inside the applicationdata folder instead.

You can correct this by changing the rights of the autodesk folder to give the modification right to normal users.

I just added it to the installation script I created and it worked like a charm.

Thanks

Same or similar problem

OS: W10 Pro v1903
New installation, type: All-Users, Self Contained Package
Fusion 360 "only" is executed when right-clicking on the icon we choose the "run as administrator" option.
If the user is an administrator and double-clicks the icon, Fusion 360 does not run. The FusionLauncher.exe and Autodesk Fusion 360 (Fusion360.exe) processes can both be found in the Task Manager. This files are located in  C:\Program Files\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\ed9d02a467b6bede213a3f14874fbaeed8aa513 but no window appears.

I've changed the privileges of the Autodesk folder so that the "Users" group can modify it, but everything stays the same. Besides doing this is a security hole.
The solution will have to come from Autodesk... soon, please

I finally found a workaround (alone in my topic cause I didn't see this one) :

- install with the usual downloader and the parameter --globalinstall

- give the full control to "users" of the directory "programdata"

You can try install again option with "Run as administrator". Right mouse click on "Fusion 360 Client Downloader.exe" and select "Run as administrator" option from drop down menu.
