Fusion 360: Online struggles to keep up with basics

On Friday 2023-11-03, work was impaired by a spinning pin wheel. Drew a Spiral, made it 1mm and gave it 48loops, with a gap of 2mm. I needed a simulation of a paper roll with product. Every time I tried to pull the leading edge to create a 105mm wide roll, Fusion360 would lock up. The only error was a message from Windows on the server host side saying the program was unresponsive. If I ignored that eventually the session would end. Restarting the session the window was still locked up with a spinning pin wheel. Eventually it would not even login.

On Monday 2023-11-06, I was able to login again, and continue. Converted the spiral to a Sketch. Erased the spiral and created a new one from the sketch. 105mm. Ok that worked. Tried to load the paper with a virtual product, can't even do 10x product applied to the paper without everything grinding to a stall.

Gave up. Erased all of the product, leaving just the paper roll. Took 15 min just to delete. Saved and Closed.

Getting an old familiar irritating message that files cannot be CB-URF - "We're unable to sync your projects."

-So that tells me any work done online is likely to be unavailable or never existed when I go home.

Tried to get most recent data list. Now just spinning pin wheel. List is blank.

-Clearly a server error, but no actual error on screen.

Says upload in progress but there is no upload happening.

At the very least I for sure that the server hosted version of Fusion360 is no less likely to lock up or loose work than the desktop version. Though I though most of this bad behavior ended a few months ago on the desktop. Maybe it has returned?

Orbit tool: Struggling against a bug  with the orbit tool, the mouse it gets stuck to the orbit tool. The only solution is to save your work and close the open tab then reopen. This happens almost any time the orbit goes over the edge of the screen. I reported this bug like a year ago. For a time it seemed fixed, clearly it is not.

Been the better part of the day fighting to rotate the work and not crash the tab.

Session Timer: Then another bug rears it's head. The session timer goes off says I have 15 min. This means the window will now reload. Except now it doesn't reload. I cannot accept or cancel the time keeps counting. After several min I get an Error 504 Gateway Timeout. Without question I just lost work.

The page will not reload, and I cannot log back into Fusion360. I am not having internet or firewall issues.

Safe to say on my side, I actually crashed the server or at least the network. -Whose job is it to keep this thing running?

I thought I heard schools use Fusion360 Online. I cannot see how. Sorry class, it crashed again, maybe tomorrow.

Hi,

I'm a software engineer for Fusion and also a CAD teacher at a local college. I sold CAD solutions for a couple years to many local manufacturers. In 27 years experience in this field I've never met anyone who modeled a roll of paper.

What is the intended use of such a model?

Constructing a machine that will hoid it and several types like it. The paper is simpler than a complete model of the product. Modeled for accuracy.

However the model was more an example of how easily the software gets overwhelmed. That it really doesn't take as much as one might think.

Additionally, the server is still down. Maybe it was never intended to be up.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. It finally connected.

Everything listed are still issues.Unless as programmers like to argue those are features...

2023-11-07 Server down again. 504 Bad Gateway.

I give up. No point whatsoever having an online function that is so buggy, lacks resources and crashes constantly.

The health dashboard is showing all services are up. https://health.autodesk.com/

If you can provide log files I will look at what's going with your computer/

I would be happy to offer logs. But how Do I get logs for Online? Anything
not saved to my own account is dumped after each session. How would log
files persist?

That might not be possible. I forgot that you were using the online version. My apologies.

No harm done. Work is weird and itchy about licenses even though it takes seconds to login and logout... So I use the online one if I need fusion at all. This all started when they offered the Beta Testing and it was a good way to test the online functions. I had no use of it at home. But a number of bugs slowed the testing and I think most who participating just stopped logging in. Recently they announced that the conversation would be moved to the main forums, and that the service was going live. But from my vantage there are still unaddressed issues. -Though I have read the service has been live for schools for more than a year now.

Anyway, Error 504 is a network issue on the server side. It means the Autodesk servers received the request. To open a connection to the Online function, and they understood the function exists. But for whatever reason the destination within the system was unavailable and the routing could not be completed. More simply put it meant the service was locked up, or offline.

At home, it is installed on my desktop. 64GB i5-9th Gen, SATA HDD, Windows 10 Pro 64.

At work it is Online, Fire Fox ver 119, running with 16GB i5-4th Gen, M.3 HDD, Windows 10 Pro 64.

-I don't remember all of the possible web errors, but once upon a time I had a custom reply for every error I knew existed. Most of them on my own server you could not get, unless you were trying to hack the server. Fusion360 Online, I don't need to hack. I just need to make a spiral, and it all falls down.

I did not see way to pull logs from the online version.

However I did verify that settings do carry over, at least short term, after logout, or window close.

Opened up the Troubleshooting and got this. At home mine is similar, AMD R7 series, 6GB. Online its an Mx series, 2GB.

Configured all settings as if there is a really low end computer and graphics being used, which is true in more ways than one. So now testing to see what impact these changes have.

So far these changes have resulted in a substantial boost. However the constant flip from line to filled drawing is a epileptic nightmare. Fortunately I am not. But its still a strain, never mind the moment of lag as it flips back and fourth.

Just lost more data.

Invalid Token.

So on top of the server constantly trying to close the session if the user isn't constantly opening closing or saving. It can loose connection with the router causing the 504 errors. And today I have discovered it can also logs you out in the background regardless of having the app open on screen.

These server issues are absolute show stoppers. Because you can loose work without question. I just watched as a file I just created was erased while I watched. One error after another flashed on the header on the left side. Ultimately flashing back token.

In other words, user is not logged in. System does not know who the user is. Data temporarily saved to the virtual profile has no sync destination. Cannot export data that does not exist in cloud or on local PC. Flipping back and fourth in the tabs the file I created previously reverted a revision and the file I created second was lost completely.

If these issues cannot be addressed, Online should shut down.

I'm working with the team that handles online Fusion. Can you please provide screen shots of the errors when/where you see them? They need more context about the error messages you are getting. Thanks.

Ok, will try to capture. Note, not everything makes an error.
Of he work done yesterday, any changes made over https:<account>.autodesk360.com/g/projects was saved without issue. The first 45 min of 1 project was saved. Looks like up to the point the first time the system tried to log me out. The next 45 min and the following hour or so was 100% lost. There was a message about a project that could not sync in the upper right corner but it seemed like the kind that would self resolve.

I will try to upload a video I shot just before the work was lost. I will add video and screen capture where possible where errors persist long enough to be copied.

1) When trying to sign on to Fusion360 Online. It will sometimes fail. Generate a 504 invalid gateway.

2) When I have been away, because life and work doesn't revolve around the computer, I get logged out. This sometimes generates a 504 Gateway error.

3) When the forced logout notice pops up, it has to log back in even if the user responds.

4) The activity monitor doesn't care if the user is active, it will try to force a logout anyway. The catch seems to be making a new file, saving file, opening a file.

5) the host seems really easily overloaded. It doesn't take much to create a file that overloads the whole thing resulting in hours of spinning pin wheels. Even after auto logout, the spinning pin wheel will persist. Unless the session is forced closed.

6) Mouse running over the edge of the browser window while orbit tool is being used, causes mouse to become fused to the orbit tool. The file must be closed and reopened.

Interesting I have been active over an hour and it has not tried to force me off yet. This is new.
