Fusion 360 causing PC to crash and reboot

I have a reasonably powerful desktop PC (i7-13700K, RTX 2070S, 32GB, 850W PSU), this is connected to a Samsung Ultrawide monitor.
I play Microsoft Flight Simulator occasionally and it works flawlessly, loads up everything a bit but no crashing or overheating issues.

A few months ago my PC started crashing when using Fusion 360. I am a hobbyist so only use it occasionally. I would be modelling something and out of nowhere the PC would switch off instantly, no warnings, nothing just instant black screen and power down. When it comes back on there are no warnings or anything.

I put a UPS on the power supply to ensure it wasn't a power issue, then I replaced the PSU in the PC for an 850W one from a 750W incase it wasn't enough before.

It seemed better after the PSU replacement, but could have just been me not using Fusion as much.

It has happened maybe 30 times in the last 6 months and it is ONLY when using Fusion 360.

I hadn't used Fusion for maybe two months and it did not crash once on me. Started using it yesterday and it has crashed three times.

Windows Event Viewer has a line from the shutdown but this is the only relevant one that ever appears:

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 13/12/2024 7:48:44 am
Event ID: 41
Task Category: (63)
Level: Critical
Keywords: (70368744177664),(2)
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I have updated Fusion but it's still the same.

Has anyone else experienced this? It's driving me crazy as I keep loosing my work.

I'm having the same issue on one of my three computers.  I can only use Fusion for up to an hour before the computer reboots without any warning.  No blue screen, just a hard reboot.  I've run a 100% memory test in the ASUS Diagnostics, Windows Memory Diagnostics and Memtest86 and they all passed.  I've also stress-tested the GPU for an hour and it passed.  This seems to have started on January 25, 2025.

I'm running Fusion 2.0.21286 x86_64 on Windows 11 Home 24H2 (26100.2894).  I see an update just dropped, so I'll see if that fixes my issue, but it's really frustrating to lose my Fusion work and everything else that's open on my computer every time.

Here's my GPU info:

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: Intel(R) Arc(TM) Graphics
GPU RAM: 4096 MB (Integrated card)
GPU Driver API: DirectX 11.0
GPU Driver Version: 32.0.101.6127
GPU Driver Date: 10/30/2024

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Anti Aliasing: On
Ambient Occlusion: On
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: On
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Normal
Transparency Effect: Better Display

[Limit effects to optimize performance]
Off

My computer is an ASUS Zenbook Duo with an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H with 16 cores (6 performance cores) and 32GB of RAM.

After updating to 2.0.21487, I have used Fusion for several hours now with no reboots.  I still can't explain how software can cause a hard reboot without a blue screen, but I'm glad it seems to be fixed!

I've updated to 2.0.21508 and now the random reboots are back.

On version 2.0.21508, I've switched from DirectX 11 to OpenGL Core Profile 4.6, and after an hour of usage there haven't been any reboots.  I think DirectX 11 must be the cause. See https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-support/direct-x-is-restarting-my-computer/td-p/13239447

I have the latest drivers (Intel Arc 32.0.101.6127) and the latest updates for my system and my OS (Windows 11, Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100).  My GPU is integrated into my CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, 2500 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 22 Logical Processor(s).

Thanks for replying to my other thread!  I actually seem to have finally gotten the issue resolved, after many trips to the repairman.  Please keep in mind that I'm not the best back-end user, but I'll do my best here.  They said that they changed a setting in the bios that was making Fusion default to the integrated graphics instead of my GPU.  I'm not sure if I described that quite correctly, but I haven't had a reboot since.

Ah, thanks, that's good input, so there was an issue between Fusion and your discrete GPU, which would be the graphic driver (and how it implements OpenGL and DirectX).  Changing your BIOS to use your integrated GPU instead of your discrete GPU causes Fusion to use a completely different GPU, and the integrated one doesn't have this issue in your case.

Unfortunately for me, my laptop doesn't have a discrete GPU, so this isn't an option for me, but I do have a recent, high-end Intel CPU (Intel Core Ultra 9 185H with 22 cores), and the integrated GPU is more than powerful enough to handle Fusion.

A hard reboot like we experience is a major problem that is probably related to Fusion.  There can't be a valid command to send to the GPU that causes this, or it would already be fixed, so there is a bug somewhere in the Fusion<=>DirectX 11 integration in my opinion.  They should probably move to DirectX 12 before they remove DirectX 9 and OpenGL support, so at least we have some options.

Well.... It actually did reboot one more time today.  Only once in a week, but still...

Did you happen to install a Fusion update in the last week or so?  This might have switched your GPU settings back to DirectX 11  - I see that there is a warning when using OpenGL that this will be deprecated soon.

I have the same issue on my HP Spectre I7 laptop. Last year it kept crashing so I switched to DirectX 9 and it was working fine. Now, with the latest updates, DirectX 9 support has been dropped and Fusion continually crashes. I usually have just enough time to access preferences to make the changes but now that is no longer possible since the last few times I tried it just resets to DirectX 11.
Just before this last update (when they warned that DirectX 9 would be dropped soon) I was able to get it back to DirectX 9 and Fusion ran fine until these latest updates. Still trying to find an option that will work without me having to get a new computer.

EDIT:

I just went into my device settings and disabled the integrated graphics card. I restarted Fusion360 and it now appears to be working. I have only had it running for a few minutes so I'll have to see if that actually worked or if its just waiting for me to do a bunch of work before it decides to crash and I loose everything.

With the integrated video card disabled I was able to keep fusion360 running long enough to complete a project but when I went to run Cura to slice my model I found that it would not run. I had to re-enable the other graphics adapter to run Cura. However, after some time, I began to have the BSOD even after having the other graphics card disabled. I lost track of when I had the card disabled and when I had fusion open.

I have now disabled the other card instead (only using the integrated graphics) and it appears that the integrated card works with both Fusion and Cura (no crashes so far.)

I have a feeling the problem is a conflict with the NVida driver. Too soon to tell but I will have to run my system this way and see if the issue is resolved.

Bin der Meinung, dass es an den letzten Updates von Fusion hängt. Weiß mir aktuell sonst keinen Rat
