I couldn't find any other reference to this problem, I have the full timeline for the top level displayed in all components when they are activated. I thought that in the past that only the timeline for that particular component was displayed when the component was activated. Is this something new? Old models as well as new models are the same.
If you click on the gear icon in the lower right corner of Fusion 360 you'll see that you likely have "Hide all inactive features" disabled.
Bottom right corner has the setting "Hide all inactive features" that controls this.
