Friction Analysis

Hi there,

I was trying to build up a model to test the friction analysis through Fusion 360. However, it didn't go well. I created two blocks stack with each other. I tried to run the nonlinear static simulation to discover the friction. I have set the contact type as separation with 0.3 friction coefficient. The material of the brick is stainless steel which is 8 KN/m^3. The force required to overcome the friction resistance is 2.4 KN since the weight of the brick is 8 KN. The simulation did not run smoothly and always has an error message. Can anyone help me have a look with the model and give me some advice?

This is my model: https://a360.co/2TAqXhw

Kind regards,

Sam

Are you a student?

Is this a class assignment?

Hi there,

I am a university student and that is not a class assessment. It is just self-interest and also the self-learning of the software. Could you help me with that if you have any idea?

Kind regards,

Sam

@Anonymous

Students (and schools) can download Autodesk Inventor Professional for free.

This can be done in Autodesk Inventor Professional - Dynamic Simulation environment.

Your professor should have given you this information.

If you install Inventor Professional - I can then demonstrate how to solve the problem.

@TheCADWhisperer any reason why your answer did not address the question, but rather provided an alternative?
I'm curious for the solution to @Anonymous 's problem, but using Fusion. Or, if that is not possible, an explanation why it is not possible would be equally welcome.

Best regards.

Fusion 360 will not do this analysis.

This example isn't exactly the same as that posed by the OP, but we do several very similar friction examples to validate against hand calculations in my class.

Hi there,

So the friction analysis cannot be done in fusion 360 no matter the non-linear or event simulation. Then what is the actual function the friction coefficient input in 360 for structural analysis?

Thanks.

I don't really use Fusion, so I have not taken the time to investigate this question thoroughly.

You have posted your question in the wrong location, the best location to post the question is >>over here<<.

Hi,

I am trying inventor. However, I cannot access the dynamic simulation fully. I cannot add loads. Can you give me some advice?

You cannot make any changes while the Simulation Player is active.

Click Rewind and Construction to make changes.

You should ask Inventor questions on the Inventor Forum.

Can you ask your instructor to join the discussion?
