Freeze/Crash caused by string commands (e.g. paste) in Expression | Parameters

Hi,

It appears that, in the Expression field/column of Parameters windows, string commands (cut/paste/undo) will cause Fusion 360 to freeze indefinitely ("Not Responding" on Windows).

On my computer, this can be triggered by:

  1. Open Fusion 360;
  2. On the freshly created empty "Untitled" design, open the Parameters windows;
  3. Create a new user parameter, enter something like "1" as the expression, resulting something like "1 mm", and save this parameter;
  4. Edit the expression in the Parameters windows, using paste;
  5. Fusion 360 Freeze.

As this is an empty design, the freeze is unlikely prolonged computation. This can also be triggered by pasting of white spaces.

I happened to have one occasion where this situation did not happen at first. Minutes later, it froze as I tried to trigger again. In other times, this can be triggered as soon as just open.

OS: Windows 10 Pro, Build 18363, 64-bit.

Anti-Virus: Windows Security.

Machine: Intel i7-4770, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 2070S.

Fusion 360: 2.0.8335.

Hello-

I went through the steps you listed and tried different "paste" results but was never able to recreate the crash issue.

I recommend exiting out of Fusion and restarting and see if the issue still exists.

If so, I would then recommend doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of Fusion 360.

Strange - followed your procedure as well.....no problems here. I'm on a very similar machine too. I tried both with a right-mouse-click and using CTRL-V and both worked....

I'd be curious to hear if a restart helped. Barring that, a reinstall is always a pain, but that too....

It appears a clean reinstall indeed solved the problem.

In fact, I wasn't paying attention to the "clean" uninstallation at first. Then the freezing still happened, after the unclean reinstallation.

Thanks for your suggestion. I just managed to perform a clean re-installation, and the problem appears to be gone.

PS. I remember both "right click" menu and Ctrl+... could trigger the freezing. Also, Ctrl+A can triggered the bug too, before the clean installation.
