Formula in Rectangular Pattern will not evaluate

I am trying to create a rectangular pattern where the number of iterations of the patter will change depending upon the size of my design.

More specifically, I am trying to design a storage shed with wall joists that are 16 inches apart. The number of joists will depend on the length of the wall. The length of the wall is specified using a parameter. If I change the length of the wall, I want the rectangular pattern (wall joists) to automatically be recalculated.

I have created a formula to calculate the number of joist, but it will not evaluate when I enter it directly into the "Quantity" field in the rectangular pattern dialog box. However, if I create another parameter with the same formula and enter that parameter in the pattern dialog box, it works fine.

Is there a limit to the size of a formula that can be entered into the rectangular pattern quantity field?

no, there is no limit to the size of the formula.  This is a bug in Fusion - you can work around it as you describe or by editing the pattern via the Parameter dialog and entering the formula there.  I think we have fixed this one, but it has not made its way out of the pipeline yet to an update...  I apologize for the inconvenience.

[edit]  Spoke too soon.  This bug is not yet fixed, unfortunately.  I will bump it with a reference to this thread.  Maybe if more customers run into it, we can get it fixed.
