Flat pattern error

Hi Everyone,

I am encountering an error in regards to a shape I want to convert into sheet metal and then flatten. It is a leaf like shape which is curved, but consists of a single thickness. I can convert the shape into sheet metal but when I try to create a flat pattern, I get the following error. I presume this has something to do with choosing a stationary face.

Error: FlatPatternAlign1(Flatpattern1)

I have also tried Exact Flat online, that works but unfortunately it seems my trial is expired after using it for a previous tutorial some time ago. Are there any other options I could choose to create a flat pattern?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, yes, indeed the problem is the stationary face.

One possible workaround could be to create a very small fake one as I've done here ( https://a360.co/37wYM7M ) and I could select it for creating the flat pattern.

I hope it could be useful.

Thank you very much for the quick reply! It seems you created a split face at the center of the leaf and used that as the (fake) stationary face? Not entirely sure how it works but Ill try that with other versions.  Also, if I would used this workaround and send the end result to a laser cutter, would it create a problem using this method?

Yes. I have also selected the face and offset it of 0.01 mm for creating a flat face to be selected.

I hope the final result can be useful to you.
