File won't open

Hi,

So I have a file I've been slowly making better with time. Problem. Is everytime I update the file with new features, it naturally gets bigger. I had the educational license and it expired so I un installed fusion and got a new one under a personal license.

I reinstalled and everything loads faster. But when I went to open my big file... Nothing... It just freezes after stating it's loading at the bottom... Then it stays there... Hours later it is still loading. I've tried this over and over and it never opens.

If I open it via browser as just a sample view it works. But in actual fusion.. It never loads... All that's changed is my license...

Can anyone help me?

I can send a link privately to test it... Just show me where to send it.

Thanks

Jon

Hi,

Have you done the obligatory CLEAN UNINSTALL?

Yes. I just did it. all it did was seem to make things slower... probably from lack of cache now.

it stays on "preparing to compute..." and never gets out of that phase.. then it eventually goes to "not responding" and i have to force close. Same as before. no improvements , sadly.

how large is this design?  Just because the OS says "not responding" does not mean that the design cannot be opened, it could just be a large design that will take a lot of time to compute.

Well it used to open it in 30seconds... But once I renewed my license without having changed anything on the design... Now I can leave it loading for 3hrs and it won't get past that. Not responding only happens if I click it while it's "loading".

Never had issues prior to renewal of my license from education to personal user.

I don't recall it being that big... But again it worked fine literally before my expiration. I took a few weeks to renew after expiration and I've had this issue ever since.

I've tried opening it like 20x. Erased cache. Restarted the computer. I have 32GB of ram and 40GB OF SSD storage. On a gaming computer so this should not be an issue. Never has been til my license expired and I renewed.

I had made several versions and some had updated going back a month and if i was to alter dimensions id make a new model... i have 5... all used to open, they would take a while sometimes up to 1min but opened. The smaller version taking maybe 20seconds to compute.

after renewing my license...none open. with ANY amount of time.

"preparing to compute..." is all that happens and it never fills the bar.

whats with this??

this does not appear to be a general problem, so it might be related to your specific designs.  If you can share one of those small designs here, we can take a look at it.

Ok, well all of them worked literally weeks before i changed license...now like 5 wont open at all.. so its kind of odd that NONE of my recent projects open. they just get stuck at preparing to compute.

The rest of the loading is normal. but once it hits that step it never makes progress. all my projects are different sizes, this one i believe is the smaller and most recent of the bunch

I cannot seem to download from this link.  Did you check the "allow item to be downloaded" box with the link?

you want to download it?

It says this option is only for paid subscriptions. I'm using a personal license marked as "non-commercial". Since I make stuff for hobby or home use and small projects i may sell in the future.

well, yes.  Cannot diagnose a problem without the actual design in hand.  If you enable "allow download", you can send me the link via Direct Message on this forum.  Hover over my name, and click "Send Private Message":

I'm not sure if you saw my initial response or the one i replaced it with, a few minutes later. I'll assume you saw my initial response and not the one i edited it to as soon as i tried to click download.

Fusion says I CANT because i dont have a PAID subscription...

I had the education sub then it expired and i got a non-commercial personal FREE subscription...

So apparently i cant sent it to anyone for download... probably cant even open it for the same reason... or use it at all... maybe it has features in the model that used subscription only options or something? which sucks.. I didnt really use anything fancy...

Can you somehow check on this?

then, the only way for me to get access is to invite me to your project. Click on the "People" tab and type my email address into the box (jeff.strater@autodesk.com) and then click on "Invite"

ok, so apparently this is  some "upgrade" that happened 2 or 3 weeks ago while i was renewing my license. Prior my file loaded in less than a minute and now it makes my recent projects take 20min to load ...

If it just took longer that would be one thing (a horrible thing), but its not just that... I also noticed my model once it does go through the new added "compute" phase and renders is NOT the same as it was before the "update".

It now has pieces that are merged that were not merged before (like symbols with text that used to be separate designs and bodies) and also has items that are totally different bodies and components now that I can't trace because i didnt make them that way... So things that used to be 1 full component are now 2 or 3 in really irregular shapes....

So are my projects now stuck deformed forever? I'm having to figure out how to separate items that i didnt join, apply appearances to things that are now suddenly transparent, make sure bodies are still merged and not somehow independent of each other as a single component....

is there a way to REVERT this update i didn't want my models to go through? I dont have time to sit and tinker with finished designs and figure out how a computer screwed them up...

At least now i can access them, prior to this week I would wait 2hrs and it would never load my projects..

I seem to have run into the same issue as jondude1.

Same constellation (Personal license and larger Project with a lot Mesh Objects). Opening takes ages since the last update. The project eventually opens up ... but every little feature change takes pretty long time to compute.
Is there anything that can be done to solve this issue? Installing the prior version might be a fix, but already saw this is not possible with fusion 360. Seems a change in the mesh tools handling is responsible for the behaviour?

Gerd

@gerdfranzm - this should be a one-time cost.  Opening old designs containing meshes after the July update have to be "migrated" to the new parametric mesh system, but once that is complete, if you save the design, it never has to go through that again, and model open should be as quick as before.

Indeed, glad it's a one time thing 🙂

Thanks for your response.
