Failed DXF Import

Anonymous
Not applicable

Attempting to import the attached DXF (created in SolidWorks 2019) file fails, with an error that simply reads:

Error: Fails to insert this DXF file!

The DXF opens fine in CarbideCreate, the only other CAM software I have at my disposal to test with.

Any ideas why Fusion 360 can't open it?

Edit: Was unable to attach the DXF, but the file can be found here .

I tried loading this into viewer.autodesk.com, and it also failed with this error:

it seems as if this DXF might be corrupt in some way.  Where did you get it, and can you load it into any other software?

You can also zip the file to attach it here directly.

Hi Jeff,

I've been able to open the files in CarbideCreate and Google Sketchup, but those are the only other pieces of software I have access to. The files were created in SolidWorks 2019 I believe.

I've attached a .zip file with this and several other files that also fail to open.

Thanks for your help. I would really prefer to use Fusion 360 for this project!

thanks for sharing those files.  Every one of them that I tried has failed - in Fusion, in viewer.autodesk.com, and in Inventor (that's all the apps I have handy to try).  I'll dig a bit deeper to see if I can find an AutoCAD expert around to see what is the problem in these files.

I had an AutoCAD expert look at those DXF files, and verified that they are, indeed, invalid DXF files.  Specifically, he said "It looks like it has no model space Block Table Record, which I can imagine is an unacceptable situation for an AutoCAD file".  I realize that this doesn't help you much, but I don't think there is much more we can do for you on the Fusion side.  I'm not sure why some DXFs from the same export work and others do not.

@Anonymous  I can open the files with Rhino Ok. Maybe try QCad to see if it's a bit more tolerant as well, then save out of QCad.

Thanks!

The files open in Sketchup too, so I’ve been using that to save them out
before opening in Fusion 360. Just frustrating that the extra steps are
necessary. The author is going to have a look to see if there’s something
in the DXF export process out of SolidWorks but it does seems strange the
files seem to open everywhere except Fusion 360.
