Face groups and conversion

Hi,

I realize that there is a lot of threads concerning stl/mesh to solid conversions and I'm sorry if this question has been up before.
I do a lot of reverse-editing of mesh files (stl/obj) and something that has been bothering me is that the face groups generated doesn't translate into the, later converted, solid. I'm on a free hobby license, so no prismatic conversions.

As I understood from the beginning, the point of generating face groups is to improve the mesh-to-solid conversion. But for me it does nothing in that regards. I'm starting to think that I was incorrect in that assumption? Does the have anything to do with the conversion or is the face groups only there for mesh editing?

Thanks!

Pretty sure face groups only affect the primatic conversion. Edit, think about it a bit more, defiantly only the prismatic version as the faceted conversion only converts each face of the mesh to a surface.

Oh, yes that would explain it. Thanks so much!

I'll just wait a bit to see if I get any more answers before marking your answer as final. Not that I doubt that it's incorrect.

@HughesTooling  is absolutely right.  Face groups only affect the "prismatic" conversion, not the "faceted" conversion.  Face groups do have other uses, as they are individually selectable in the Mesh workspace (so you can easily Remesh just that face group for instance), but as they pertain to conversion, yes, only "prismatic".
