Extruding Text Is Not Working

Hi @ all

I've just tried to create some text and then to extrude it. Went the "normal" way (Create Sketch - Extrude).

When I created the text, I'd already noticed that it's looking weird (blurry, as if not being created as a vector but a scaled-up bit-based image).

When I tried to extrude that, I received the helpful error message "Cannot complete extrusion".

I am not aware that I've done any changes to Fusion or my system. I've restarted Fusion, I've restarted my machine, problem is still there. Some voice tells me that it might be bug of Fusion, coming wit one of the last updates. If so: a pretty disturbing one 😉

In case someone has an idea of what I could try: I'd be hugely grateful for any tip!!!

All the best

Please attach your model.  That is the best thing you can do to help the Forum users help you.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

This depends a lot on what font/size is being used.  Some fonts work better than others.  Text is not converted to vectors until it is consumed.  You can manually convert the text to sketch geometry using the "Explode Text" command in sketch.  This can also be a useful tool to diagnose what the problem might be.

If you can share the design here, we can take a look.

Thanks for your reply. Here is the model attached. Thanks for the tip, it's a first-time for me, never had any problems I couldn't solve myself before.

Thanks for the tip. Tried it, but unfortunately it give me the following error message.

Do you have an idea where this might come from?

unfortunately, the shared design does not contain the font info.  I think it just defaults to some system font, so it works for me, but is clearly not the same as in your image.  As mentioned here, the results you get will vary a lot from font to font.  It could be that this font does not support the "retrieve boundary" calls that are needed.  Can you use a different font?

The idea with the font was the solution: I've just tried "standard" fonts like Arial, Helvitica, no problem.

So, for the non-working fonts I'll just use Affinity Designer and import the svg.

Thanks again for the quick and constructive help!!!

I tried this with no luck. However, my problem may be somewhat different. When I try to add text (Aerial) to a surface all goes well and I get the drop down text box. However, when moving the track pad pointer from the surface in to the text box the courser changes to a vibrating diagonal double headed arrow and has NO control over any options. Lucky me. Using an macbook pro which in the past (still current) was adding extruded in/out text just fine.

Hi,

1. can the text be extruded if it was previously converted to paths ( rightclick > Explode)?
2. have you tried both OTF and TTF fonts?
The behavior can be different.
