Extruding Sketches Changing Colors

I've been modeling all morning with extrusions appearing in grey as I have always expected as normal. The latest extrusions have each come out in a different color, which is not what I want. It is not possible to change the material properties or color or finish of these new extrusions. How do I return the program to the default method of operation?

most likely Display Component Colors got turned on.  Try just toggling it off:

For a permanent change, set your Preferences in the panel I show.

For a change to existing, press "A" on your keyboard, or go to Appearances, and simply drag the base appearance over the one you want to remove.
