Hello Fusion Community, I am teaching a CAD class at a High School using the Project Lead the Way Automata Box and Cam Lesson. I have created several Screencasts that my students are following and some students are running into an interesting problem that I have found a work-around to but would like to understand the issue better.
We are using the Top-Down method and Rule #1 in our approach. I am having the students create a bounding box for the project, then use the faces of the bounding box to create the back and then the bottom of the box. The issue arises when we mirror the "Bottom" component to create the "Top" component. That operation works and a "Top" component is created and is visible and added into the timeline and browser. I have the student activate the "Top" component and create a sketch on the outer face of the "Top". We then use this sketch to extrude a square hole in the "Top". We click "OK" and the extrusion appears in the timeline, but the feature is not visible in the component. The "Objects to Cut" lists the component that I am trying to cut.
I have gotten it to work on the student's file if instead of using the parameter "Thickness" which guides the thickness of all the box components in our design, I use the "To Object" extrusion command and use the bottom face of the "Top" component. Then the square hole appears in the design. I would like to understand why it does not work in the first instance, is there something that I am missing from an order of operations or how Fusion treats mirrored components?
Thank you for your help.
