Extrude only extrudes part of sketch

I have a body, I've added a sketch.

I attempt to extrude, but it's not extruding the portion that overlaps with the existing body.

I am extruding a simple circle sketch, but it's trimming the part.

That's a different default in CAD than I'm used to, but I can see how it could be useful.

FYI,my final design is of course different, I just simplified geometry for the problem.

I see how this method could be useful, it is just a different way to look at the issue
