Extrude doesn't work on profile, only outline

I have been using Fusion for over two years, this problem is new.

My home app started extruding incorrectly. On a simple shape (such as circle or rectangle), only the outline extrudes, making a zero thickness ring. This was done in a new file, with just one simple shape.

Also, on an existing drawing, a normal, plus direction went negative and vice versa.

This is on my home copy, my work version is fine. When I tried opening the drawing made at home on my work computer, I received an error message that it couldn't be opened without upgrading to the new version.

Was there an update that created this problem or have I inadvertently changed a setting?

Thanks.

Screen shots would help so we can see what you see! Only guess is are you in the surface workspace rather than solid and\or have you unchecked Show Profile in a sketch?

Please don't attach pictures. There's an option Photos on the editor toolbar to embed them, please use this option.

Thanks Mark

Show profile is checked.

I've designed over 80 pieces in the last three years (many of them complex), so it's not my first rodeo.

This happened overnight and only on one computer. I'm at work, so can't provide a screen shot.

As stated, I tested it multiple times on a fresh design sketching either a single circle or rectangle.

After clicking the profile and extruding, hovering over the shape highlights only the outer surface showing it's not a solid, only a ring.

Doing the same on my work computer works as it should.

So, it's not my technique, it's the program. I suspect either an upgrade bug or a setting was changed.

Hi,

Before we dig any deeper, I would like to ask if the extrusion was accidentally performed in surface mode?

No problems on my computer, are you sure that you are not in the surface environment?

File>Export and then Attach *.f3d file here that exhibits this behavior and end all doubt.

AFAIK, I'm in Solid mode. That's the default with a new design (at least mine is).

Since I'm not at home, I can't definitively say.

Is there a default setting that can change this? I looked for one and couldn't find it.

(Not even any images attached???)

Or make a public link to the file that you made at home and get an error on when trying to open at work.

It's difficult to attach images or files when I'm at work and the problem is at home.

I'll attach them tonight or tomorrow.

If you tried to open the file at work - you must have access to it.

Right click on the file name.

Make a public link in your dashboard.

As stated, the two are different versions and it won't let me open it at work until I upgrade.

Since I don't know if the problem is in the upgrade, I don't want to chance corrupting my work copy.

You don't need to open a file to share a public link to the file.

(See my additional image in previous post.)

You can also use to avoid opening Fusion 360...

Just out of curiosity, how are you going to avoid automatic update?

This is a common topic here.

Have you ever done any surface modeling in Fusion 360?

Are you familiar with the different glyph displayed for surface and solid extrusions?

Are you familiar with the various Visual Styles?

My work copy doesn't auto update.Fusion Error.jpg

This is the error I get when trying to open at work.

I haven't done surface modeling. I wasn't aware a glyph was displayed on extrusions, only sketches.

I have updated some of my previous responses.

You can share the file without access to Fusion 360.

Do you usually model with Capture Design History turned on or with it turned off?

Where did you go? Did you figure this out?

Where did I go? To work, then home. This isn't as critical as my real job.

I was asking since there was a bit of free time.

At home I did further investigation.

Any designs before two weeks ago, look as they did. Sketch outlines are dark blue, extrusions are solid gray and there is no shadow.

https://a360.co/33Cu3UY

https://a360.co/2JbiOcO

New designs have a light blue outline, extrusions are transparent and there is a shadow.

I found they are solid by placing a hole on the extrusion.

https://a360.co/2QE9pys

When I open an older design at home, it has a shadow; while at work it doesn't.

Why the change is unknown, but I don't like it.

I don't remember changing any settings, so I've concluded it was an "upgrade."

You have the material set to clear polycarb. Occasionally I've had Fusion reset to default on an update but Polycarb is not a default so don't know how you've ended up with that.

You need to go into your preferences and rest the default material.
