Extract Surface

I've seen a few posts where people wanted to know how to extract a surface from a solid body and the answer generally is that feature is not available in Fusion 360. But, I use these small steps to extract a surface with success:

1. Create an offset plane parallel to the surface you want to extract.

2. In the Surface option, select start a sketch  on that plane, then select the Project command and then select the surface you want to extract. The projected surface should show up on plane as an outline of the surface.

3. Make sure you are still in the Surface option, not the Solid option, and select patch, then select the projected surface. It will create a new surface on the offset plane.

Good luck.

You can use Offset set to zero in the surface workspace to create a copy of a surface or even surfaces.

Great instructions for creating a "flat" surface copy.  In the video I show you how to create a surface from a non-planar surface.  The Surface Offset command can be also used a a quick way to create a flat surface copy.

Edit: @HughesTooling beat me to the post.

Thanks for the info. I thought that Offset of zero might be a solution but could not find it in the Surface>Modify pull down menu. After your post I searched around again and found the Offset under the Surface>Create menu and voila, it works, thanks.

Another option could be to simply Unstitch.
