Exporting from Fusion to Inventor missmatch

Hi,

So i made a circuit board in Eagle and created the 3D file with Fusion. I have to export the 3D file from Fusion in to Inventor so i can add my own silkscreen picture. (Cant use Fusion for this as fusion only supports using the standard silkscreen layer for this and not custom ones).

When i export from Fusion either as a STEP file or as a Inventor 2019 file (ipt/iam) there is content missing (copper pads) and the colors are mismatched. Is there a way to solve this? For this board its easy manual work but if it was a bigger board it quickly becomes a lot. Please see attached picture.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I hope this message finds you well. I don't think you have to go through all these conversions. In EAGLE and in Fusion 360 you can use any custom layer for additional silkscreen. If you have a multi-color silkscreen just put each color on it's own layer. If you want to bring in a logo we have tools for that.

Could you provide more info on what you are trying to achieve?

Hi Jorge!

That's great to hear! I have asked about that before and got the answer that it was not possible, have this been recently added? I'm using Fusion 2.0.10244 and Eagle 9.5.0.

How do i go about it? I want to define what layer should be used for silkscreen when going from Eagle to Fusion since the default is not the one that I'm using. (Or change it when i am in Fusion)

Regards,

Filip

Hi @Anonymous ,

I hope you're having a great day. Thank you for the clarifying information, I'm afraid that in the 3D PCB transition there is still no way to specify certain layer for other purposes.

With that said, what are specifically trying to do. There may be a way to make it work by playing with the place and names layers since both of those show up on the 3D PCB.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @jorge_garcia,

Ok so lets say i want a custom silklayer. In Eagle i make the default silklayer into same colour as the soldermask so its not visible. Then i create a transparent image of my silkscreen in another program. I now want to apply this image on my PCB in Fusion. Here i get issues, when i try to apply the image onto the surface of the PCB it does not show on top of it and i cant find the option to move it in vertically. I can only see it "trough" other components, see attached image. How do i fix this easy?

I can make a offset plane above the surface but the plane will not match the size of the PCB and i cant find an option to resize the plane. So there will be a lot of manual work to try to resize the image applied on the plane to match the PCB size, is there not an easier way?

Regards,

Filip

Can you Attach an example file here?

Ok, here is an example file. I have tried applying a custom silkscreen like i explained above. As you can probably notice you can only see the silkscreen trough other components.

Hi @Anonymous ,

It sounds like you don't want to use the the default silkscreen that's generated by EAGLE. Instead of making it transparent you can put it to use. Just delete all of the text on the tNames or bNames layer and then add your own text and images. In Fusion 360 Electronics, you can use whatever font you like and you can use import-bmp.ulp to bring in any custom images onto those layers.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
