Exporting Designs

What is the reason why exporting to other file formats has to be done in the cloud ? I am absolutely sure that conversion can be done locally. If F360 is installed on my computer, what is the benefit of having to sit and wait for a design to be exported to another file format... in the cloud ?

Some conversions actually cannot be done locally.  For example, Solidworks only supports Windows.  So, if you are running on Mac OS, it would not be possible to do that export locally.  Second, Fusion does this to limit the size of the downloaded application:  If we were to download all possible translators with the application, it would significantly increase the download time, as well as the application footprint on your machine.  So, Fusion tries to balance all that by allowing some exports to be done locally (STEP, IGES), but others require a cloud translation.  It is just a design tradeoff that was made.
