Exporting Assemblies as STEP File

I have a design assembly that needs to be exported to an alternate FEA software. When I export the design as an STP file and open it on the other end, parts are missing and joint relations are no longer in place for the existing parts. This similarly happens when the assembly is opened in a different CAD program.

Hi @c.andersen

Can you please share the fusion data (.f3d/.f3z)that you are trying export as step file?

Joint relations are specific to the CAD software used and do not translate into STEP format.

That applies to all CAD software I am aware of, not just Fusion 360.

Hi! The quick test you may try is to import the same STEP file back to Fusion and see how it compares with the original assembly. If everything is correct, likely the 3rd-party Simulation tool will be at fault.

Another possibility is with the component definitions. For an assembly, you need to make sure each component is well defined. Try importing the STEP file to the 3rd-party tool as a part. Does it work better?

Please share the file here so forum experts can help take a further look.

Many thanks!
