Export file name missing version number

Hello, first off let me apologize if this is not in the right place. First time on the forum here.

Anyways, I opened fusion today and when I exported the file I was working on the v## was not auto populated in the file name. Usually it is "file_name v21" for example but today it's just "file_name". Saving then does try to overwrite the previous file so it's not as if it's just hidden in the UI but still saving the file with the version. I had a pending fusion update so I applied that and restarted and it is still the same. Is this a bug or perhaps a setting I somehow disabled?

I am on version 2605.1.18 on Windows 11

Same, at least have it as an option. Even put it under a separate "Advanced Options" section if you're concerned about adding too many options that'll confuse users. Clean for everyone else, but still available for those who want it.

For me the use case is relatively simple. At various points, I'll export my model, either as a backup or to send to the 3D printer. When I come back to it again, make some changes, and re-export, I want the second file to exist alongside the first one, and have a clear indicator of which file is the newest. I don't want to overwrite the first one, and automatically appending the version number made that simple. Now, the default is to overwrite the existing file, and it takes a user action (manually changing the file name) to NOT do that.

Same here,

If this option is not added back, we would have no other choice than looking for another CAD solution!
Production effectiveness is a concern here, and we've now moving backward with your latest release!

I added the "version" number on my PCB silkscreen and then continued to develop the design. Now a customer wants another identical to the last PCB. Because of minimum order quantities, I always have extra, empty boards. I read the number off their board, pull from my inventory of blanks, and then I used to be able to scroll through the fusion history and see the v# directly to determine where I left off design-wise, BOM-wise, lessons learned-wise. Now I need to do a lot more digging to figure out the pedigree. my save notes help, but the exported version number was always unambiguous.  I can adapt to the milestone method, but in the prototyping, development phase, which is what my customers get, it's always in flux. Auto-versioning was a part of my workflow.

Not intending to dismiss anyone's concerns here, just adding a different view on it to give some context on why they may have made this decision.

Every time I export something, part of the workflow was deleting the automatically appended version number. I do not want it. I want the export to overwrite the previous version, if it exists. I don't have a need for multiple versions of export files, I only need the most current one, and the best way to ensure that I don't wind up with multiple versions which I could inadvertently get confused is to overwrite every export.

I do think we can have both ways of doing things without interfering with each other. I can see how disruptive this change has been for many people, while it has only slightly reduced inconvenience for me. I feel that this change in default behaviour could have been a toggleable setting instead.

We are going to see if Autodesk is really following what's used and required in the field!
And not only in the developers world!

Hi Lance,

For what it's worth, the version control feature that was present before this update was very useful, especially in the more regulated environments, such as Medical Device, Aerospace. When drawings are exported into Quality Management Systems, with version control, it's very much an industry no-no, if the software decides when a file that was previously referred to, had included the v##, now no longer does.

Especially for anyone in the R&D and Design space. Being able to check / compare previous revisions is essential.

Not every design change is progress. We learn more from the continuous iteration process, which sometimes requires back-pedaling to a previous 'safe' state, in order to progress in a slightly different direction . It was very useful to see 'all versions' of the design in the data panel.

The general feeling I'm picking up here is one of choice. If the user chooses to enable this functionality, why not allow them. Equally if users choose to switch it off, then allow them.

Best regards

Padraig

This is seriously the situation for us too.  We need FDA clearance required version control and not being able to trace the history back, and losing option to save with comments (now it only says "user saved" which is meaningless.), we can't continue to develop on this platform. It is a matter of our Quality Management System now having a broken workflow.

Also broken workflow here. We cannot trace anything back anymore. Great. Just leave the number visible, thats all I need. Now I have products marked v164 and no clue to what CAD iteration they belong.

Also a strong opponent of getting the file version back.

Have exported and sent 100's of files with version attached to clients since 2018.

(I am delivering technical solutions to my clients, I am not the one to educate them on incorporating revisoning in their workflow)

With the version removed there is no easy way to trace / link my clients data to my own.
