Emboss. Is there a way to "bake in" the resulting object?

I am enjoying working with the Emboss command.
Is there a way to 'bake-in' the results of creating an emboss, so the final part has the emboss as part of it?

The reason that I ask is that I am using "Emboss" to wrap a grid of 900 hexagons onto a cylinder, and it takes forever to select, preview and accept the final output. Is there an equivalent of the 'combine' feature so once it is done, it is done?

Hi,

I suspect that the problem with you has something to do with the Sketch solver, which has problems with such quantities of sketch elements.
It might be better to make the thing as a sheet metal element with a "hexagon" to be extruded and pattern the feature.

Please share the file.

File > export > save as f3d locally  > attach it to the next post.

I am including the file that I am working with. Just  selecting the array of hexagons to be wrapped over the cylinder takes a looong time on my ‘average’ computer.

Steps tp repeat :

  1. Select emboss.
  2. Select the array of hexagons
  3. Select the cylinder to be wrapped.
  4. Wait a long time.

You are probably correct about the Sketch Solver being slow.

Hi,

I separated the process in 3 steps: > Screencast

1. Emboss (deboss) 2 polygons

2. one rectangular pattern > vertical

3. one circular pattern > takes 2:23

Elements: 1344

polygon cut out 1344.png

Much better! Thank you Gunther for the quick solution. It appears that having lots of sketch elements was killing my computer.
