DXF export of 2D filled-in geometry - Basic Questions

I want to export a 2D pattern as a DXF to be supplied to a mask-maker for photo lithography. A "DXF export" of my Fusion sketch gives me only lines, not filled shapes. This seems like it would be insufficient for the mask maker since they would not know what is masked and what is empty space. Can DXF's show solid (filled in) 2D geometry? Can Fusion be made to export DXFs with filled shapes?

Hi @lens42,

Thank you for posting! You can download DXF files that contain 3D solid bodies from the web.

However, I'm not very sure what you meant by "solid (filled in) 2D geometry". Could you clarify? Any screenshots would be helpful.

If a have a sketch drawn in Fusion 360 like this:

sketchsketch

and I export the sketch as a DXF, I get this. The filled in areas are gone and DXF shows only the geometry edges:

sketch saved as DXF.JPG

If I draw the same thing in Visio, the exported DXF looks like this:

Visio DXF export.JPG

How do I get a DXF file from Fusion 360 that shows the solid 2D bodies filled in like the last picture, and not as outlines?

Thank you for your response! Unfortunately Fusion doesn't have the ability to export DXF files in that state, and I think you will need to use another application for your purpose for now.

Also, you may consider submitting this as an enhancement request to the Fusion IdeaStation forum, which is constantly monitored by developers and product managers, and is currently the most effective way to request a product enhancement:

Other forum users will have the opportunity to Vote or add Kudos to the Idea. Votes on an idea will increase the likelihood that an idea will be implemented.

This is also a problem for me. I need to fill in complete path shapes in Inkscape in order to produce a mask for etching use. The collection of unconnected lines produced by Fusion is not representative of the sketch.

I would also like this to be a feature. Right now I have a lot of time in a design that I cant really use.....
