drawing panning problems

the only way i am able to pan in a drawing is clicking on the hand with a mouse and then pan.

the 3d spacemouse will zoom but panning seems to be disabled.

given the number of people using these 3D input devices this really seems to me like a very high priority......  eg no more changes electronics or generative design until the basics are working 🙂

Hi,

There are developments to make the 3-D devices also usable for the drawing area.
Look at the drawing roadmap.

does it help that it might be in the roadmap ??  this is an old problem that got pushed aside by working on bells and whistles rather than foundation fusion 360 🙂

Hi @johnptc314159

I would love to talk to you 1:1 about this, would you be up for a Zoom call? It would be great to understand where you think we could be improving, and I'd like to share some of our upcoming projects and plans with you.

There may be some common misperceptions in your post, that I'd like to address. First off, this feature request is owned by the drawing team. Fusion 360 has dedicated development teams for each functional area of the software. My job, is to build the strategy and roadmap for drawings in Fusion, and to prioritize which features we build. The drawings team consists of several dedicated scrum teams, UX, XD, QA and Product Management.

When Fusion adds any other feature to the package (what you referred to as "bells and whistles"), this has no real bearing on the drawings roadmap, our dedicated team is still working away, building the next set of features for drawings. None of these other projects slow us down. Last year the drawings team delivered 32 new features (these were all in product, customer-facing features), in addition to this we completed well over 100 additional enhancements, including bug fixes and back end improvements. This year, we will exceed that by quite some margin.

Back to 3D connexion support. Like any feature, it's all about priority. This specific feature is on the roadmap. When it comes to prioritizing features, there are several factors that we consider, one of them is customer requests. Every customer request that we get, from meetings, emails, forum posts etc. gets collected and categorized in our feature request database. This information is used to prioritize the features that we build next. I've added your request to our database.

We know how many users we have, how many of those use drawings daily, and how many of them use 3D connexion devices. To put this into perspective, we currently have far more requests for features like "Advanced Print controls" (including better scaling), "Object Properties" (ability to add colour control to drawing objects) and "Automatic Centre Lines & Centre Marks" than we do for 3d mouse support. Which is why these features have a higher priority.

If you're up for it, let's talk, here is a link to my calendar, please book a 30-minute session with me, and we can chat on Zoom. I can also show you what we have planned & where we are with 3D Connexion support (see the public roadmap here). Or if a good old-fashioned email is more your style, feel free to ping me Clint.
