Drawing from design closes immediately upon opening

Greetings,

When I attempt to create a drawing from design, the Drawing workspace opens and before the part is populated into the workspace, the workspace closes and the Design Space re-appears.  I have attempted to create a new drawing from design from both the data panel file space, as well as using the 'file' drop-down in an existing open file and the result is the same.  I'm using a full pro version on a windows system.

This is the simplest of the files, although it is worth noting that this is occurring with any file, even the sample files in the admin folder

Hello @clarkwallace

Thank you for the dataset. It is very strange. Unfortunately I am not able to reproduce the issue. Also, if the issue is not data or file specific then I guess first step can be cleaning and re-installing Fusion 360. Maybe something went off while updating the Fusion 360 previously.

Can you please give it a try and let me know if the issue is resolved. Also, it is worth mentioning that we had some customers having issue with drawings not showing correctly. Most common solution so far is updating the graphics drivers (Windows auto update doesn't work. Drivers need to be updated from driver producers site)

Thank you,

Best Regards

Windows 10 Home, 64bit

Graphics card: Geforce GTX950M

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU@2.6GHZ

RAM 16GB (avail)

I did a clean uninstall and reinstall (and cleared files as directed) with no effect on the situation

Updated graphics driver although I'm not sure this was effective since Geforce doesn't list this card in their own updates list.

Hello @clarkwallace

We are still working on this issue. Meanwhile, while helping out another customer we again found that updating driver helped. For the graphics card you mentioned below I found link to a graphics driver update on official nVidia site which supports your graphics driver.

Personally, I cannot say whether to install this driver or not. But, if you can check the current version of installed graphics driver we can be in a better position to decide.

I will update here once I get more insight into the issue.

Thank you,

Best Regards

I have the same issue, drawing closing very soon after the drawing window opens. I remember this feature working at least back in 2018.

Did a reinstall at some point, GPU driver update didn't fix the issue, today I also updated Windows 10 to 22H2 but the issue remains.

Specs:

Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Intel i5-6200U

16GB DDR4 RAM

NVidia GTX 950M

If logs could help you identify the issue then let me know which ones I should provide.

I did try to open an old drawing and got this: FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x21f26810 Exception at E336F67h, after opening them they just close as usual when trying to create a new drawing.

I would suspect a hardware compatibility issue/limitation that was introduced at some point as @clarkwallace has the same GPU and a same generation CPU.

I took my computer (laptop) to a shop and they said that my hard drive
simply wasn’t big enough to run the program anymore. Apparently this
program uses a lot of hard drive space to operate which is not always
common, according to the tech. I just wanted to clarify that that was my
issue in an effort to help you find yours. Best wishes.

Thank you for the response.

Have they done a clean Windows install after you encountered this issue? Because I can't see how having low hard drive space could cause an issue like this when F360 is already installed. Currently I have 70GB free on the main drive and 500GB on a secondary drive.

I’m not computer literate, but the tech I take my stuff to told me that
fusion 360 relies heavily on free hard drive space which is a bit different
that many programs he has seen. My laptop had been getting worse over time
I suspected because the program may have required more hard drive with
every update or perhaps I was just filing it up ….I couldn’t upgrade the
drive in the laptop so I bought a desk top and now that‘s all I use it for.
My old laptop is working just fine for my day to day tasks. I’m sorry that
I can’t help more than that. Best wishes.
