Drawing default style changed in latest release

Just noticed that in the latest release, every new drawing view created has a view style of Shaded, used to be Visible Lines. Don't see any preference for this, how do I change it back?? Always has been Visible Lines in the past. Not using any templates, just the Fusion defaults. Windows 10, desktop PC.   Big nuisance to have to change this every time I create a drawing view!

The view style has been changed to shaded from visible edge in March update, when create drawing from assembly design. This behavior change has been tracked as internal ticket (FDWG-18443), and sent to dev team for investigation.

The view style can be edited in document setting. Users can define the setting in each document, or define the setting in drawing template and use the template in drawing.

Thanks for checking into this. Finally found the setting you mentioned - a big issue though is that the setting is now 'shaded' for every single drawing file that I already have, adding any new base view in an existing drawing file now comes up as shaded unless that setting is changed. A major setting like this ought to be part of the global user preferences.

Hi @crueby1

As was said previously, thank you for reporting this.  We are taking a look and discussing possible directions that could be taken to ensure a good experience.

Note that this change was meant to and does give users more control to define the specific view settings that would like to see within their template.  The "From Scratch" settings are really just a set of defaults that we define (which cannot be changed by users until after a drawing is created) to let users quickly explore drawing creation and the expectation is that users create their own template to modify/define these settings to their liking, so that they do not need to set them manually for each and every drawing they create.

Can you tell me a little about your workflow, and why you use the "From Scratch" settings rather than using a template?  The reason I ask, as mentioned above, is that most users we encounter use a template where they can define and set their preferences for various settings for how they want their drawings to look and be stylized.  If you were using a template, you would set your preference in that template, then you would not have to modify the style/settings every time you placed a view.  Of course, this would not help previously created drawings, and that is a scenario we are digging deeper into, but it would get you setup with the preferences you like and would eliminate the manual manipulation with each view placement for drawings created from your template after you updated the setting there.

For now, along with creating and using a template with the settings that you prefer, you can also change the view setting, in the document settings after a drawing creation so that you don't have to change it with each and every view placement.  Also, you can explore the use of the "Import Document Settings" (which is found by righ-clicking on the "Document Settings" node in the drawing browser), where you can import settings from a document you have set you preferences up already to update a drawing you are working with that isn't setup correctly for you.  Again, maybe not ideal, but should be an option to get you away from having to manually manipulate the settings each time a view is placed.

I know likely not the answer you want right now, but hopefully some of the information here will be useful for you.  If you have any other thoughts, questions, etc. please let us know!

Hi Jared,

Thanks for the info. I have just been using the 'from scratch' defaults since they matched my needs very closely for the last few years. I only tried setting up a template once years ago, and had a lot of trouble with it not being visible in the drawing creation menus, having to go search for it every time. That was years ago, and I don't know how it has changed since then. Currently I have hundreds of drawings created that way, and make new ones for each project as I go.

Is there a good (and up to date) tutorial/example of using/managing templates? I'd likely set up one or two, and use them all the time, as long as it was easy to reference from the drawing creation dialog.

Thanks!!

Chris

Well, partial success with the template...

I created one in a project folder, saved it, and if used from that project it appears to work okay. However, if I try and use the same template from another project, it does odd things.

1) view shows up as 'visible and hidden' edges

2) size comes up as 2:1 rather than the 1:1 in the template

3) placeholder placement is ignored, and it wants me to placce the view on the page

It looks like it only does this on some projects, can't figure out the pattern of when.   Why??
