Corrupt file

Really hoping someone may be able to help me with a Fusion 360 corrupt file error.
I have the students licence and has completed 100’s of hours of work on a Scania model for my GCSE, however when opening up the newest version I had the below corrupt file notification come up.
I’ve attempted to open previous versions, and have managed to open one from 4 days previous but I’ve lost at least 10-20 hours work and am concerned if I works off an older version it will happen again.
Has anyone had this before and been able to restore the most recent version?
Is there anything I can do to avoid this happening again?
I’m  obviously extremely worried as my GCSE grade is relying on it. I’ve  also tried to contact Fusion support but had no response yet.
I’ve attached a pic of my project, it’s taken an awful lot of work to get to this point.

Thank you in advance for any help that can be given 😊 — with Maxwell Cripps.

There is a chance you will find a backup copy of your file on your hard drive.  I am going to show you the Windows path, if you are using a MAC, there is a similar path but I am not sure how to find it since I only use Windows.

Open up file explorer and go to the following path shown in the screen capture below. (read on below graphic).

Local App Data.png

The first red arrow will be replaced with your Windows log-in name, which should be the one you use to run Fusion 360 also.  The second red arrow is a nasty looking series of numbers and letters.  You may see a couple of these at this level, select the folder that has the latest date.  When you get to the folder "F" you will see a variety of files with very long names.  In the graphic below I indicate with the right hand arrow the file extension you are looking for and the left hand arrow will be part, or all, of the file name you are looking for.  If you find your file, COPY IT to another folder and then use the File, Open command in Fusion 360 to open it.  If it is what you need, then save it to the Cloud as usual.  (Read on below graphic)

One more important thing, all of the folders and files are only visible if you have Windows set to view Hidden files and folders.  The graphic below shows Windows File Explorer and how to set it so you can see these Hidden folders and files.  Good Luck.

Did you find more than one instance of the file in question in the folder?  If so, go down the list and see if one of the older ones is not corrupt.

I did find one file that I could open; however, it means I would have lost 10-20 hours of work. Is there any way of getting that back or is the one that works my only option? Also if I was to continue from the one that works would it happen again?

It would seem you will have to recover using the one that opens.  My crystal ball is busted so I cannot tell you if the any file will be corrupted or not.  The only thing I can tell you is to exercise good file management practices.  I would use the combination of Ctrl+S key combination to save a copy to the folder you have been looking at.  Also you can use File, Export and save a copy to the folder of your choice also.  This file will not be update as you go forward but it will be a backup you can over write from time to time.  Also, file corruption can happen if you close your computer, or Fusion360, before a save is sync'd to the Cloud.

Hi the same issue has happened again. I had been working off the backup that worked and saved it as something different, but when going on it today, it came up with the same message. I lost all the work from the previous sitting. Does anyone have any idea what it could be as I really need this to work as it is for my GCSEs and I don’t have much time left?

I had saved it during the sitting but they are corrupt as well. I have got a backup that works but I can’t continue working on it if all it’s going to do is do it again.
