Configuration, joints, and Linked Parts

So I change an assembly into a configured assembly and have two configurations. one is a single rocker and the other uses a double rocker. I have it jointed up and it works fine in the file. However, when I link insert it into another part it gets messed up, and the joints do not work/disappear.  when I go into the tree and select the missing joint a visual error occurs. this assembly worked just fine before I configured it.
