configuration help!

any advice would be much appreciated,

i have an assembly of a series of components in which contains 4 x hopper side. thee hopper side was drawn as a component and then circular partnered to create a hopper.

im trying to input an extrude into one of the hopper sides for an inspection door, however, when i extrude the inspection door sketch on the hopper side in which i want the inspection door to be located on it implements the extrude on all 4 sides.

ive tried using configurations within the hopper side part. one configuration with no extrude and the other configuration with an extrude. however, due to the part being drawn within the assembly i cant input the configuration into the part as the configuration is going into the top level of the assembly and not under the tree items of each part there fore i can only have an extrude in all 4 sides or no extrude at all when what i want is 3 sides to have no extrude and one side to have an extrude for the inspection door.

Hi @jamesCB3TU, try this,

  1. export hopper side as a new external file
  2. open the new file and add the extrude feature, save and insert it into Hopper Weldment
  3. remove one of the hopper sides -->right click the browser node and select Remove, not delete
  4. add constraints to position the inserted component

@g-andresen

That is a handy tip using Boundary fill. Unfortunately in this case I think this would force @jamesCB3TU into a solid body rather than a Sheet Metal part, but it could be doable.

Depending on how the pa rt is structured, you could adjust your Pattern so that you suppress the position of the unique component, then use Copy - Paste New to create a unique component in that position.

If you want to do this with Configurations, even if that part was external you wouldn't be able to use Pattern to get what you want. Pattern always retains the reference to the original, and you would have to insert a separate Configuration and position it in the unique position.

Feel free to share your design if we're not quite getting what you're looking for.

Hope that makes sense!
