Computer takes a long time to calculate updates to configurations

I design and build custom cabinets and recently started using configurations in my modeling.  I also recently purchased the manufacturing extension.  I'm noticing that the time it takes to regenerate between configurations goes way up with the more configurable items I add to my model.  On one particular cabinet, while there are a lot of configured items, it could take between 30 seconds to a minute to reconfigure when I make a change.  Is this normal?  Does it have anything to do with adding the manufacturing extension?  I use a Mac, year 2020, Retina 5k, 27” with 3.8 Ghz 8-Core Intel i7 processor.  The RAM is upgraded to 128 GB 2667 MHz DDR4.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @william.r.whaley, if there are a few parameter changes between configurations, it may take time to recompute the model. To verify if it's related to configurations, could you please try this - go to Modify->Change Parameters-> in Paramters table, uncheck Automatic Compute, edit a few parameters like you did in Configuration table, then click Apply. How long does it take to update the model?

No change.  When I uncheck the box and then go back into parameters the box is checked again.  Also, I should have put in my original post that the compute time to open any particular configuration takes way longer than the actual compute time when parameters are changed.  Both, however, take longer than I would expect.

Just to be clear - when you made the changes to the specific parameters in the Parameter table, it took the same time as making the same changes to those parameters in the Configuration table, correct?  If that is the case, we could say it is probably a general compute performance issue related to your design and not specifically because the design is configured.

Can you elaborate on the aspects of the design you have configured.  Are they mostly parameters, or have you configured feature suppressions as well.

We are continuously working on performance improvements for Configurations which will be coming out in the future and could help with your case.

I dont think the Manufacturing Extension should have anything to do with this performance issue in the Design workspace.

If you are willing to share your design, either here, or privately to me, our team can take a look at suggest improvements or could help identify potential performance issues we are not aware of.  My email - GAUTHAM.KATTETHOTA@AUTODESK.COM.

I'm sorry I misunderstood what I was asked to do...To clarify, making changes in the parameter table takes virtually the same amount of time if I change those same parameters in the configuration table.  It doesn't take too much time (about 10 seconds) to make one change at the time...so with each value change I have about a 10 second wait time.  However, when I change between configurations, that's when my wait time gets really long.  I've suspected it's my modeling practices since I've learned fusion by trial and error and watching your videos.  I will gladly share my model with you privately via email.

when changing multiple parameter values in the Parameter table, you could turn off this checkbox in the attached image that will allow you to make multiple changes, and when all the changes have been made, you can turn this box on again.  This will make all the changes to be applied together.  And this is what Evan was mentioning would give us a good understanding if the performance issues are seeing are related to Configurations or if they are generic compute issues due to the complexity of your design.

But go ahead and send your design to me and we will go through it and let you know.

Thanks
