COMPONENT REMOVED DURING "BREAK LINK" OPERATION

I have a Linked component as part of my model.  When I attempt to break the link for the "inserted" component I get an indication of "preparing for compute".  Shortly after the display of this message the component that I am attempting to break the link on disappears from my model, like it's gone.  I have tried this operation twice with exactly the same results.

I am happy to provide a link to the drawing if necessary.

Hi there,
This is surely interesting. Break link should create a local copy of the external component, not make it disappear. Would you mind creating a video of the workflow? Also, if you can share the model with us, we'd love to try and figure out what's happening.
Thx and regards,

Very happy to do so, with "a little help from my friends". First please
guide me through the sharing process, second if I take a video on my phone
will that be OK or is there some other way that you would like it.

Screen Cast is processing on the Server as I type, once finished I will post it.  Then I will figure out how to share the file.  It's been a learning morning.

Here is the link to the model

https://a360.co/3bhqzdF

FYI, I will also be posting another thread which deals with the "Save Copy" function.  I will Title it "Save Copy Incomplete".  It references the same Hotel Bedford model.

The Screencast is about 10 minutes long, I did not edit it to shorten because I thought you need the whole process.

Thanks for looking at this.

Hi,

there´s only a sketch "base sketch" (file: foot jack 10).

No component, body ...

Sorry, I am confused "foot jack 10"? This is not part of my model is it possible you post was intended for someone else?

Hi David,
Thanks for the Hotel Bedford file. When I open it, I don't see any external references, only local components. In other words, there is nothing to break link.
Also, can you share a link to the screencast please?
Thx

I am not sure how the sharing function works so maybe you can help me out here.  When I send you the link to the project, do you get a specific version of the model or just the latest.  I am suspecting that you are getting just the latest.  Because, I needed to move on with my project I did promote a version of the project from before I created the "linked" files, the current version of the project therefore would look as you describe.  Do you have a way of accessing older versions?  You can probably recreate the problem from the current version if you want, while doing this you can also observe the other problem I have reported regarding saving a component which does not appear to be fully captured upon save.  To observe the "not saved" problem attempt to save the "corner" component.  When done compare the contents from before and after and you will see stuff missing.  In order to recreate the problem on disappearing, do a save on the component "Right End", when saved and verified by opening the new file that the full contents have crossed over, then remove the "Right End" component from the original and do an "Insert into current design" using the saved "Right End".  Then attempt to unlock the newly inserted "Right End" component.

If this does not work for you I will go back and get the version that is bad, export it, create a new project, import it and then send you the link to the new project, the problem should be the same.

I will attach the video for both the Save Component and the Delete upon unlock problems.

Please let me know if you need more as I would like to understand if this is a bug.  BTW, I do understand that my model is large, some have told me larger than is suitable for Fusion however, I am 3 years into a Fusion learning curve and don't want to start again with Inventor which may have similar problems.

Thanks for your time looking at this.

PS Looks like I can only attach one video, I will send a second post with the second video.

I am going to try this again, first time I got error message "Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied." even though I selected the video from "My Screencasts".  I will try again.

I am not allowed to insert the video into this post for some reason, is there another way to send it to you?  You could also look through the other posts in this thread as I have previously posted the video to another person who responded, maybe you can pick it up there.

Hi David,
Yeah, sharing the public link will only share the top version. If the problematic version is an older one, please do the following:
- Using the side panel, expand all the versions for your file (click on v?)
- From the History section, open the version you wish to send to me
- From the file menu, export that file (as an f3z) to your local disk
- Share that file with me
Will also need your screencast to understand how to reproduce your steps.
Thx and regards,

OK, I think I have everything you need here which I will send in 3 individual posts due to size limitations.  Attached will be the version of the file with the problem, as well as two videos on shows the problem with doing a save copy and not picking up all the details from the original file, the second is the problem with the disappearing component.

#3 The exported version is too big to attach to this post, I have created a new link to the problem file which is on the top of the version stack.  Once you confirm that you have this file I will promote my production file and carry on with my design efforts.

Please advise.

Must be a pretty big f3z. It's still getting packaged up on the server side. Once that is done, I should get an email and then I'll download it.
Thx

Hmm, something isn't right. I still haven't received the email telling me to download the file. Are you able to download the file from that link David?

Opening in Fusion resulted in failure with message "Open in Fusion failed".  I have initiated the download option, waiting for email now.  Going out to get weekly groceries (scary) will check when I am back, few hours.

Got a colleague to download the file for me. So thankfully I was able to start looking into this.
At least on my machine, it appears the Break Link on "Right End" is failing because it would've created cyclic dependencies. I get this error at the end:

Error: The Break Link operation will be aborted due to cyclic dependency error.

From your video, it seems you're not seeing that. I wonder why.
Also, when I initially opened your assembly, I noticed that the visibility of the "Right End" component was suppressed. I had to click on the little "eye" to the left in the browser to unsuppress it. After the break link command aborted, the component was still visible (as expected), but the location of the component had changed (it moved up a bit). Didn't expect that, but that's hopefully not a huge problem. Can you please check if perhaps the "Right End" component is still there in the model, but it might have moved in the browser, and its visibility might be suppressed?

Thx and regards,
