Combine slab component with shelled component without losing shell part

I am trying to combine two components, one which is essentially a slab, and the other has several holes which I don't want to lose.   Is there any way to combine the already created components without losing the shell/hole parts?

I think we'll need more information, preferably the design you have so far, and some information (screencast, screen shots) of what you are trying to do, and what the expected outcome should be.  Thanks.
