Clicks not working in latest version

I've never encountered this issue before this latest version of Fusion360.

The program is not registering the first click I make. For example, I'll click on "Create Sketch" and instead of selecting it, it acts as if its a click-and-drag as I move my mouse away and will suddenly "select" whatever happens to be under my mouse when it stops registering as a click.

If I want the click to work, I need to click on "Create Sketch". Keep my mouse there and click AGAIN. Only after this second click does it select "Create Sketch" and start a sketch.

This isn't only limited to "Create Sketch". It's for ANYTHING that I try and click on -- 80% of the time. So I just have to remember to click twice -- sometimes. This is making modeling extremely difficult and frustrating. Anyone else having this bug with the latest release?

I've attached a screencast. You can see how the clicks don't register (the "Create Sketch" doesn't turn blue after the first click). You can also see the havoc this is causing -- I even unintentionally removed the "Line" command button from the toolbar because it clicked-and-dragged right off.

Does the behavior occur for any new file, or only for this file?

Are there any issues indicated in your Timeline?

Hello @kinsleymark,

thanks for posting! I'd like to ask for more information to help you troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Have you noticed this behavior for one specific design or every single one since the latest update?
  2. Have you checked the Pan, Zoom and Orbit shortcuts in the "Preferences" tab (see below)? You may try to restore these to defaults (see the image below).
  3. To make sure the issue is not linked to your mouse settings - can you test some operations with a touchpad and check your mouse settings?

Pan, Zoom, Orbit shortcutsPan, Zoom, Orbit shortcuts
Let me know if that helps. Thanks in advance!

Please accept as solution if my post solves zour issue, or reply with additional details if the problem persists.

Thanks guys. I'll do some diagnosing and send you what I find.

Some additional notes for now:

  1. This issue isn't just for the trackpad. I plugged in my mouse and the same things happened.
  2. After opening Fusion360 and the model, it works for a certain amount of time. But something happens after awhile (usually after some processor intensive calculation that causes Fusion to slow down for a bit and think, or a failed surface creation, etc) and the issue starts happening. For example, I was able to work for a good 10 minutes this morning on the model just doing simple revolves and sketches. It wasn't until I started working with the more complex surfaces did the issue start.
  3. In a way, this seems to be related to this issue: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-support/fusion-360-mac-trackpad-problem/m-p/7993112/highli... --- It's as if Fusion is doing something too intense that just causes the Mac input driver (clicks, multi-touch, etc) to give up and crash.

I have been experiencing the exact same problem. None of the remedies described above have resolved it. Assuming it has to do with latest update cause it wasn't happening before that.

If you are using a 3D Connexion Device, you might try without it unplugged.

If that "fixes" the issue then run the Calibrate on the device.  (I do this each morning.)

I can confirm I am not using a 3D controller and the issue persists. Definitely the most annoying bug i've come across in Fusion.

I use a 3D controller, but I tested it with it unplugged (after a restart) and the issue is still there.

Also - a new bit of info:

The issue persists with the mouse immediately after leaving Fusion. I was using Fusion, and then I four-finger-swiped to a new desktop workspace on my Mac, and tried to click a file on my desktop. Instead of selecting it, it dragged the file for a bit and dropped it in a new location.

(it looks like this only happens directly after leaving Fusion. Once in another program, the mouse works fine.)

So whatever the issue is, it is affecting the actual Mac mouse controller (and not just limited to the model area).

I can also confirm since this has started happening, i'm experiencing a crash every ~10 minutes.

Hello @kinsleymark, @Anonymous,

thanks for the info! I logged the issue in with our development team and will reach out to you for further info. I would like to ask you to:

  1. Collect your diagnostic log files for Fusion 360 and send them to me for further investigation.
  2. Try to perform a clean uninstall and reinstall of Fusion 360 to see if this resolves the issue.

Thank you in advance!

I performed a complete uninstall / reinstall today and the issue is still there. It is primarily triggered when I'm clicking in the toolbar. I tried generating log files but that doesn't seem to be working either..

I just performed a full restart on my machine after reinstalling Fusion, and so far the issue seems to have stopped. Will report back if not but so far so good. Thanks everyone.

Hello @Anonymous,

thanks for the update!

The log files can be collected manually as well. For Mac, they are stored in the following directories:

  • Macintosh HD>Users>***>Library>Logs>autodesk.webdeploy.streamer.log
  • Macintosh HD>Users>***>Library>Application Support>Autodesk>Autodesk Fusion 360>"Custom ID">logs ... (look for all *.log files)
  • Macintosh HD>Users>***>Library>Application Support>Autodesk>Web Services>Log ... (look for all *.log files)

Thanks!

Thanks Pawel.

I did a deep search, but none of those folders or files seem to exist on my machine...

Hello @Anonymous,

is it possible that the directories where the diagnostic logs are stored are hidden? Here's a solution to that: How to Access Hidden User Library folder on Mac OS.

@kinsleymark, @Anonymous,

you might also want to try to install this app for Fusion 360: Native trackpad. We are curious if this can be used as a workaround. Let us know if that helps - thanks in advance!

Also, because of the odd click behavior, my UI keeps registering long clicks when I am selecting something, thus causing the Depth / Parents pop-up to constantly appear... this plus the multiple clicks required to do any operation have slowed me down a ton even when doing the simplest actions.
